Amsterdam Meet 2013 Report of Upcoming Spyderco Prototypes

For me it's just a simplicity thing, nothing else. I'd buy the Domino because I like the looks/specs, but not because it's a flipper. So the bearing system really doesn't do anything for me other than increase the number of parts and the complexity of the design.

Very cool carbon fiber pattern on the Domino........ I'd be all over it if it wasn't a flipper. Could always de-horn it, but I think I'll wait until this flipper trend slowly recedes :)

Thanks for the responses guys, I can see both sides of the arguments at this point.

Regardless of the system used, I have no doubt that it will be a well executed knife. I just want them to take my damn money, hello pre-order lists!

Lots and lots of cool new designs coming out....... Spyderco is on the ball  Glad to see business is doing well for the company.

Yeah, I'm rather impartial to the bearings system myself. However, I haven't tried out the Southard yet either. From what I've heard, though, it's pretty phenomenal and so maybe they're worth it.

Hope to find out soon ;)

By popular demand, Spyderco decided to make the Dragonfly in a new color. This is a pink Dragonfly that will come out. The proceeds of this knife will benefit a cancer charity; the Guardians of the Ribbon/Pink Heals Tour judging from the catalog. Another knife I will hoard for the women in my life. Really, it’s for the girls. Not me ;)

Good news for the Dyad fans, there’s going to be a new Dyad Sprint Run. This sprint features a gray G10 handle for the large Dyad. The knife has double backlocks for the plain and serrated blades. The knife seemed large to me (I’ve only handled the mini-dyad before) and it had a decent amount of heft to it. As a lefty, I can’t really access the blades left-handed – so I will pass. The fit and finish looked great on this prototype. The spacers were finished quite nicely.

Serrated Edge Blade Length: 9,6 cm / 3.77 inch
Overall Length with SE Blade: 21 cm / 8.26 inch

For a complete story on the origin on the Equilibrium (and the Balance), check out Ed Schempp’s explanation on YouTube. The knife was easy to open and close. I liked it a lot. This one went straight on my wishlist.

I love the equilibrium....but I bet it will be pricy:grumpy:

The Foundry knife! I almost forgot about that one. I think the Carpenter employyes that get the knife will be extremely pleased. It is a beautiful design IMO.

I used to have one of the original dyads with the micarta handle. I sold it years ago for what seemed a good price at the time - maybe around $140. I think I will need to get one of the new ones as the combination of fine tipped and serrated blades makes it a good companion to a more robust fixed blade.

On the Domino, I go back and forth. I like the pictures, then I think what's the point of a flipper, when you already have a leaf-shaped blade with a spyderhole? Also not sure what the point of the thick ti(?) liner on the CF scale side is. The leaf blade doesn't have a super strong tip, so what is the need for such as robust handle. I'm interested in it, but still on the fence.

What kind of handle material on this knife? I think someone said Bioblu for the Carpenter employees and they may go with g10 or SS for the general public.

I hope to see some pictures of this knife in its final form.

Oohhhhh man that Dyad looks amazing. Although I am a sucker for knives with Gray G-10 so maybe it's that, but it is definitely on my Want Very Much list
