Amsterdam Meet 2015 report of upcoming Spyderco prototypes

I'm not sure, but based on the pics and all of the angles shown, it looks to be a little more svelte in many ways. To quote Mr. Blond "The Folder 2 was a bit narrower, lighter and thinner overall." My guess is that since the GB1 is listed at 5.5 oz, that the GB2 may be around 5.0 oz. if not a tad bit lighter. To speculate even further, when I had my GB1, I took it apart to remove some of the scale and liner material to afford easier access to the lock-bar, I noticed that the majority of the weight was in the blade itself. So, since the GB2 looks to have a more streamlined blade shape, i.e. less material, and obviously based on Mr. Blond's assessment of the entire package itself being narrower, and thinner, I am going to guess that it is indeed under 5.0 oz's.
Thanks. Just for fun and based on the info Mr Blonde provided, here are the specs of the Bradley 1 and the Bradley 2 Prototype:

Bradley 1:

length overall 8.078 " (205 mm)
blade length 3.438 " (87 mm)
length closed 4.687 " (119 mm)

Bradley 2 Prototype:

length overall 8.27 " (210 mm)
blade length 3.54 inches (90 mm)
length closed 4.53 " (115 mm)

It's interesting with geometries that similar that Spyderco would have given the Bradley 2 its own designation. Guess we'll have to wait and see how their thicknesses and weights compare.

Can we see pictures of the Endeavor, and your impressions of course!

Well hell, I just compared the specs and the GB2 appears to be longer across the board. That doesn't necessarily discount my assumptions, but it certainly doesn't go very far in supporting them either.

That was my take as well. I would love to have seen Spyderco make a Bradley that fit somewhere between the 1 and the Air. The 1 is too big and the Air is too small for my taste. But a Bradley with a ~3" blade and a ~4" handle (7" overall give or take) would definitely have gotten my attention.

Mine too! Bradley 3 ?

Do we know if the 2 is keeping the hollow grind or going saber? It's hard to tell from the pics.

The ION features a full carbon fiber slightly radiused handle that results in a very light folder for its size. The handle does feature steel liners and I guess the spacer was made from G-10. The flipper worked great on this sample, and it quickly becomes clear why a function opening hole is not needed. The hole in the blade is there solely for trademark purposes. When you look at the exposed locking tab, it might look thin. This part of the linerlock is actually ground down a bit for ease of access. The rest of the linerlock has a full thickness liner. I liked the ergonomic of this little folder a lot, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a production version to give it a good cutting workout. I think this could be a great office folder – classy, light and practical.

Ion looks great! It a bit of a back burner one for me tho, I have an AVO already and this is close enough that I'm not in a hurry. GB2 on the other hand....

I am a big fan of the Chinese Folder design by Bob Lum and Spyderco. I have all the variations I want – which is pretty much all of them, except two (the black blade Moteng exclusive and the infamous cranberry version). So I am positive I will add this smaller Lum Chinese Folder to my collection. According to Eric, the clip on this prototype is too long and a new clip will be made for the production version. Apart from its size, the Lil’ Lum has another difference compared to the regular (medium and large) Chinese Folder designs. The smaller blade is a bit curvier in the edge than the other designs that feature more of a straight edge. This smaller blade is almost like a spearpoint design. The Lil’ Lum also features skeletonized liners and will be made in Japan. I’m sure this small classy utility folder will see plenty of pocket time, and not just collect dust in my display cabinet.

I absolutely love my GB1 except being a lefty, I have a very tough time getting my thumb to manipulate the frame lock. Thumbs' too thick I guess. So I never carry it.
Seeing the GB2 with the more streamlined blade just makes this probably my next Spyderco. I haven't formed an opinion yet on the "frame choil" as opposed to the "blade choil" on the GB1.
I hope the frame lock is a bit more left friendly on this iteration.

Well there's your 3" by 4" (7" overall) folder right there. I definitely like the low profile blade and the lightening hole. ;) I'm guessing the Ion might come in at around 3 ounces or less. That would make it just right for me. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it . . .

Damn I'm loving all of these...

Can't wait for a GB2. I don't have a Gayle Bradley yet but I want one...although I think I'll wait for the GB2.

Especially if it's lighter.

I was really looking forward to the Ion but that just doesn't do it for me. The size is prefect but there is just something that I can't put my finger on just yet.
The GB2 is beautiful I will have one no doubt

That Chinese... I love my wire clips but this knife is super nice. The Firefly is looking sweet too, but is it really still a prototype? I thought we'd be at production sample phase by now.

In the meantime you can always snag a Des Horn before it goes the way of the stegosaurus.
