I would say that was probably not a good indicator since there has been no word from Busse.

Nope, they are going to make the folder. Don't worry it will happen, you know Busse isn't going to make a normal folder, it's going to be the best to have the name Busse on there so I'm sure they are just making sure everthing is nothing but the best. There is no doubt that they are making it. It might take a bit long is all. :D

Nope, the folder isn't coming for a while probably. But, why he sold his proto is worrying me a little.

I don't know where you get your "info" from Dan ... maybe you have an "inside track" ... but personally I doubt a folder is likely ...

To begin with setting up the machinery for the folder is'nt an easy undertaking ... it is different from anything needed for a fixed blade .... then there is the issue of the "warranty" Busse is famous for ... is a folder able to have the same warranty and not cause undue problems for the company? I doubt it ...

Plus look at the "time line" from the first hand made proto's .... if Jerry were keen on the idea it would have already happened .... he is'nt the type of person to let the grass grow under his feet if he were going to do it ....

I have no "inside track" info, but I too think that eventually (that's the key word here...eventually), there will be a folder released. Surely, it takes time to do it right, i.e., "machinery setup", and I don't see it having quite the same warranty... And surely nobody who makes a folder is that insane to cover a folder like a fixed bladed knife, especially with us crazy car bashing, modem smashing, chain cutting, heavy using knife knuts!! ...But I imagine that when Jerry has the final design and the details worked out and is ready, it will be the best folding knife in the biz with the best folder warranty available... But then again, I have faith! :)

i do agree the busse folder will be epic but an unlimited warranty isn't that bad i use benchmade and they have never once turned me down and i use it as hard as i can with no worries and remember they dont cover intentional damage and neither does busse
it will be ok jerry just give me the folder or us the folder

"Faith" would only be appropriate if Jerry had said he would do a "folder" .... "hope" is a better choice .... and he has'nt committed to doing one .... and there is a message there if you look for it ....

I can see why he would'nt want to do a folder ....

If he set out as a knife maker to make the ultimate hard use knife .... and succeeded .... why would he want to embark on a different type of knife ???

$

He is'nt doing too badly as is though .... plus I don't think you give up being a college lecturer to make knives with the idea of making $'s .... it is much more likely a "vocation" .... and even if being a "businessman" is one of Jerry's strength's .... having the business sense to know that a "folder" could unravel the years of building up the "ultimate hard use knife" reputation might also play a part too ....

For the challenge? To try something new? To step out of the comfort zone? Why do other successful people do things like this? Where would computers be if everybody were content to have a machine that fills a room just to do basic functions? What about the space program? Artists? Architects? Researchers? Doctors & surgeons? ...etc., etc., etc...

...For the feeling of achievement, the success, and with it...the payoff. ;)

What about a collaboration? Like Busse/Reeve. the mechanism from reeve the hard use unbreakable infi blade from busse? Let Reeve worrie about the mechanism reputation.

Folks are gobbling up "hard use" folders as it is, just imagine if Jerry were able to bring to the folder market what he brought to the fixed blade market. Can you say "game changer"?

That is an interesting concept. However I think a better fit for a collaboration might be with Rick Hinderer. Something like an XM-24 with an INFI blade would be pretty sweet. Plus, I think Jerry and Rick are cut from the same mold if you will. They both love knives, guns, food, cigars and a good drink.
