Where can you buy the folders? Are they on the website?

There are no Busse folders besides 4 (IIRC) prototypes floating around. A Swamp Rat Rat Trap is the next best thing from the Busse family, but they have not been available from the store for years. Still, every now and then, one comes up on the X. It's a great little folder if you are looking for a Busse family folder at a fair price. It's even made of SR-101, Swamp Rat's specially heat treated 52100 steel.

Cool. Thanks. I saw the Bad Jack on the website, but it looks too big for my intended uses.

That is an interesting concept. However I think a better fit for a collaboration might be with Rick Hinderer. Something like an XM-24 with an INFI blade would be pretty sweet. Plus, I think Jerry and Rick are cut from the same mold if you will. They both love knives, guns, food, cigars and a good drink.

And they both live in OHIO!!! ;)

Sometimes the long term "pay off" comes from sticking with what works and what your're "into" .... "folders" are only as strong as you can make the mechanism ... if they are not what you wanted to do from the outset .... why take up a cause which would only serve to undermine what you have already achieved ??? If you think broken folders won't affect the "Busse" reputation then we differ in our views ....

Maybe the answer would be to set up a new company and make them under a different name and avoid cross contamination damage to the Busse reputation .... but why do something if you don't want to ?

How many Japanese Sword makers would see a challenge in folders ? Would you think it appropriate to push them to do so ? I see Jerry's knives as pushing the envelope of what a hard use knife can take .... insisting on him doing a folder just does'nt seem appropriate to me .... we really ought to respect him for what he has chosen to do in my view ....

I think that you have me figured wrong...

1.) I am not "insisting on him doing a folder". I'd love for him to put his patents to use, or improve on them and release one, but I'm not insisting. I'm quite happy with the selection of folders on the market, and if Jerry says that he'll never do one, then I will sacrifice one of my Busse's to have one made with an INFI blade and I will carry that proudly instead. ;)

2. Jerry already has my respect, period.

I thought that the Rat Trap blade was made out of S30V only. Was there a version with SR-101 steel?

I think the Rat Trap project was "outsourced" to another company .... Horn Dog has one and knows who made them for Swamprat .... makes sense if it is in S30V .... none of the Bussekin "in house" blades use S30V AFAIK ....

Now who is gonna butcher blades into ground oblivion????? Crappy day for HOGdom. Regardless of who thinks who's right and who's wiener got stepped on, it's a bad day.

If I was Jerry it would definitely bother me if I didn't make a folder. Maybe not now - but eventually, when he's lying in his hammok, drink in hand, BBQ fired up and reflecting on his life in 50 years from now he will feel... regret  ;) :D

He knows it - and that's why he must bring the folder. Neither for us, nor for the money. For his own peace of mind :p :D

And now... bring it

Soooo…..Do I get this right? Randucci would rather trade his grail knives for money than welcome new HOGs to this “exclusive” club? Kind of bummer, the way I see it …..

Ducci-dude, withdraw what’s left from the sale, send the knives to an old HOG to hold them for you, he’ll send them back when you change your mind...........

I don't think Randucci selling his knives has anything to do with new HOGs. I'm not sure where this came from. Randucci is a class act kinda Hog, always will be.

Added: I read some other posts and can see where you're getting this. I still don't think that it has anything to do with the new folks. Instead, I think he sees a change in the foundation of the community.

I don't think Randucci would mind me speaking for him, but he has nothing against new HOGs themselves. As it has been explained to me, it is more about the way Old Skool HOGs had to earn their HOGdom and build their reputation. If I understand correctly, it has rather cheapened their status and loyalty by granting such ease to new interest. You will find this sentiment amongst a few of them (which I am not any but a lowly IT HOG) and I am sorry to see it. I won't argue against Jerry's right to grant whatever, however. I will not argue against the Old Guard as well. While I do enjoy it here generally, I have found that not all change is good, nor is it all bad.
I will echo the Bosses squeal now. Let's Drink!

Understandable..

It's like going through Infantry basic training and the class after you doesn't have to do the 20 mile road march at Benning to graduate.

Yes. There used to be a long process involved with becoming a Hog, now there isn't. The Hogs who earned their names the hard way got a strong sense of pride at the achievement. Now the names are just given out and the Old Hogs achievements no longer mean anything. I can understand their frustration. But, the times are changing...

I totally get where Randucci is coming from, but this is Jerry's deal and he set's the rules, and I get that too.

From a business standpoint, he wants as many included as possible, and that makes sense.

I'm an E-Hog and I'm grateful for the opportunity, as I will never make it to a show.

I didn’t take Jerry up on his offer and did not send my pic to the sweet little lady from BC(someday I might though ;) ), but I think what Jerry did was a great gesture to a lot of new guys, like myself, who slow but sure develop an appreciation for the fine product Busse Combat is in the business of offering.

I was coming to this forum for about a year before my first post, while learning about Busse knives I couldn’t help but notice the comradery, the old HOGs seem to enjoy on this board, and it’s been great to see, fellas. I would like it very much, someday, to have a few beers with some of you, old farts, I mean old HOGs, shurely. So Timmay, I know you have your reasons, and stuff, but it’s just too phucking bad, man. Dan is right, everybody here knows who the old HOGs are.
