An interesting video of a female knifemaker

I'm in love with this woman already!!! I would drop $200 for one of her knives in newyork second! Being a son of a Blacksmith and a knife maker myself, I relate to her. All you guys "questioning" her knive's quality are just jealous lol. It's really that simple.:D.

Plus old and most new farriers rasps are quality 1095 steel. Once annealed and worked with properly, these things make outstanding working knives.

haha, yea I thought the "grating" feature was a smart selling point. It's just insane that the minimum price is $200 and the back order is 6-8 weeks.. I was also thinking "good for her" if she is able to sell them for that much.. but I'm kinda amazed how much marketing can over throw quality.

My YT Channel Lsubslimed

this....Again good for her. But 90% of the members here on BF makes much better quality knives than this for less.

There are some good posts in this thread.

But I really do not understand the negative, judgmental attitude of some for you here!

Exactly! I don't get it either. The world would be a better place if we had a knife maker on every corner like her. I think what she's doing is wonderful thing and amazingly awesome. Two thumbs up for Chelsey :thumbup:

No judgment here. I would not mind if more knife makers looked like that she is easy on the eyes.
O wait, was that sexist??

She has, what seems to me, a very nice and well designed web site. Chelsea Miller Knives. Mike

I wonder how a 5/16 thick chef's knife, sharpened with an ax grind, will perform while slicing thin strips of raw chicken for fajitas, and the paper thin slices of onion that go with?

Will it perform like a $450 chef's knife or a $2 chef's knife

Karambit777 you need to get a girlfriend buddy ;0)

The Chefs design looks more like a simple convex to me. More of a full height on one side with about half height on the other. Iv done the same in my shop and it does turn out a sharp knife capable of "most" slicing tasks without risking chipping or rolling from being too thin.

And I would trade my current girlfriend for that one in a blink of an eye:D. lol. She's a rare gem as far as Im concerned. Yes I know I don't know her, but I don't care.

Only thing that gets me is that she's making kitchen knifes out of a file that was used to clean crap off of horse's huffs. I know the steel has been heated and cleaned, but the thought would still kill my appetite. Kind of like using a used toilet bowl for a punch bowl.

I must be seeing something different then you are seeing, I see a heavy thick small cleaver with a bad grind, more suited to chopping wood then for kitchen use lol

And you better hope your current girlfriend doesn't look at your internet history or you're in big trouble mister ;0)

More power to her. She found a niche market for her product. Good marketing,
good website, good Facebook presence, good story.

Many here might say her work isn't worth the price, but she's found a lot of people
who would disagree. I've never seen her work in person, so I'm not qualified to
judge the quality or lack thereof. It's cute, funky, useable art from a clever
young lady. What's not to like? Don't like her work, don't buy her knives. She
apparently doesn't need your business.;)

Bill I have to ask, why did everyone tear this guy a new back side orifice for trying to sell substandard knives and this girl who isn't even putting out a knife half as good as his gets a free pass???

Ive been under the assumption that making custom knives means your workmanship and quality is better then what you can buy at walmart not worse

Not all of her knives look great, but there's a learning curve for everyone. I hope she continues to make knives and gets even better at it.

On another note, I wish my wife was interested in making knives or even sheaths for that matter.

How do you know her knives are not even half as good as the Pakistani knives?

At least she is doing 'her own thing' and not copying other makers...

Do you feel threatened by this girl knife maker?

You have to be really careful with this now a days..Several brands have went to low/med carbon steel like save edge..Ive seen their msd sheet and its 1038 carbon steel and ive tested them..Black diamonds are cheap. Some are case hardened and some are nitrided. You have to test each one you use. I have used a lot of files and rasps in my years. You can trust Nicholson and black diamond files to be the same as their head heat treater said they have not changed in 50 years..Even then some of their rasps are not high carbon as they don't have to be..Hoof rasps are now considered consumables in the farriers market..they throw them away as fast as we do grinding belts..
When it comes to rasps you have to check every one you use these days..Ive got a pile in the shop that are not hardenable unless you use brine.Even then they don't get that hard, not hard enough for a good knife. So they get turned into snakes and hawks with welded in cutting bits.

Don I'll consider this a childish statement and disregard

Half as good?? she is cutting them out with a torch and you can clearly see the blue/gray line is well into the blade, If she was heat treating them I can guarantee the director of the video's would have put that in....fire and smoke from quenching, good video

Not copying? rustic knives are all over the place, difference being most of those guys have learned their craft and are producing a quality product

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...p-amp-stamp-on-knives?p=13576531#post13576531[/ like i said in my first post on this thread when the op asked what we THOUGHT about the video, because she's a female. but that makes me shallow??? you guys tore the man up in that thread, but he was obviously lying. i wonder if i posted pics of my unfinished 3rd attempt at a knife if i would get accused of being a fraud.

I'll disregard your "childish statement" statement.

I just don't understand why you or anyone would hammer so hard on another maker. Is it just entertainment? I just find it odd?
