As it turned out, the lock can no longer be trusted and the blade can closed without even touching the lock. It’ll just tap closed without much force. I guess decades of use and abuse wore it down.

I was ready to quit the belt sheath knife by then anyhow, everybody in my circle wore them for decades. One biker friend of the family wore a Sharpfinger and I eventually inherited it. It’s caused me to be a bit sentimental towards them and I’ve bought a few.

I still like a sheath knife in the woods, though and bought a new 110 last year just because it was so cheap, and ya just never know…
 
My father's Boker 240 with what I assume was a broken tip neatly converted into a mini screwdriver (it was too late to ask him when it came into my possession)

I have several knives that are older than these, but I bought them used, and just don't have the same personal connection to them.

These three have seen a lot of stuff over the years.

I picked up this Camillus pilot's survival knife in DaNang in 1967 or 68.

I really splurged & paid about $15 for that 885 at a truck stop in NC. I was driving truck at the time, and that was a lot of money for me to spend on something like that back then. After I bought it, I remember thinking, "Boy, I hope my wife doesn't find out what I paid for this!" That thing rode in my right front jean pocket every single day for about 30 years. So, I guess I got my $15 out of it.
 
My Buck two-dot 110, purchased around 1974. I carried it so much I wore out the first sheath, and found a replacement sheath sometime in the '90s as best I can recall. It has some scrapes and dents, plus my own attempt to refine Buck's thick edge from that era. I'd never send it in for a SPA treatment because then I'd lose all the history represented by those battle scars. I don't carry it now, preferring a 112 or a 501 for their size and weight. I see it's pretty tarnished! I need to do a little polishing tomorrow.
