Ancient Mini Combat Kukri?

That's the kind of little khuk auntie would call a "cute one." :D

Seriously nice work, JW.

Thanks guys- all part of the Eternal Experiment...still not quite what Jens put up though. I'd love to see an HI version too.

After playing with this design for a bit: if this is a hunting knife then I'm a calico housecat...Jens, I think if you embiggen this you have your terrifying stabby khukuri...

What is the blade length JW? Looks like about five inches! Legal edc for me:thumbup: It does look pretty stabby:cool:

Very intreguing JW. I am sure there is a logical reason that I have no clue about so what was the point of flattening out the point so much? Almost looks like a corn blade knife or a long curves spey? Seems a lot less pointy than the original?

Puts the peak waaay out near the tip, so tip shots are nasty and draw cuts on the sweet spot drag that peak right through the cut-puts more psi on that part of the edge.
Still penetrates pretty well, as the drop in the blade decreases the angle of the point quite a bit compared to a straight blade with the same point.
Clearly I have waaaaay too much free time to think this out, now that I read this...

So while you can stab with it, the primary motion the point is made to enhance would be a pull type slash while still retaining some ability to pierce?
Just trying to understand the best move the blade is made for. Always best if you tailor your attacks to the strengths of a give blade. I always try to imagine what moves would make the best use of it.

Shav- that, or with the snap-chop the Gurkhas use the peak hits almost like a tomahawk. The point goes right into everything I've tried it on, though. The arc of the blade and the distal taper help.
That point style helps put some weight on shots that are out past the true sweet spot.

I just enjoy the way they evolved and the serious thought that has been put into the blade shape. I love the fact that an old blade find evolved into what appears to be a pretty awesome new blade with a whole new set of strengths. Being able to pierce with a khuk and not lose the benefit of the belly in a pull slice or snap-chop is pretty impressive and they look cool too. Awesome work J W I always liked blades with a nice recurve. They seem to fit my fighting style well.

It's also kind of a weaponized Itak- the Filipino work bolo (some places in the PI they call them golok, but they're different from the Indo golok.) my edged weapons background is 80% Silat, so this shape is pretty natural.
I find that khuks thrust pretty well- no guard, but the angle shifts the push from straight back to up
(Glock grip angle vs single action army)-and a khuk thrust leaves a wound channel like an entrenching tool...

Very nice work.
I'm always torn between two blade geometries. I like the safe and straight, yet something in my 'eternal re-incarnated self of blade use over time' WANTS a nice belly and curve!

Yeah, well. it was 50F and melty yesterday, there's 17" of ice and snow today, and there's 'sposed to be tamps back to 45 by Freyday! So, I blame 'cabin fever' for the wayward brain pain!

:)

Another look at the reincarnated ancient Khuk! Very nice EDC. The antler and deep fuller really make it feel super light yet no doubts its strong. I can only imagine how effective this style of blade might be. Its definitely pointy stabby!

Not only is a good slicer once you bury it the sharp recurve along with the drop lets you keep it burried in the cut! Awesome design! No i didnt get a chance to cut a pig but I did take out plenty of pallets with lots of layers of shrink wrap over cardboard. One of the movers today even recognized it as a "Gurkha Knife"!

Definately a gem there in that first gen version Ndog, glad it is even recognizable to the poor lesser knowledgable folks you are surrounded with.

Can't wait to see pics of the 2nd generation in use too JW. You finding the new ones have any issues? or are they pretty much acting as you predicted?
