Wow!... is what I said when I got this Northfield 97 in my hand. I do like the nailnick option and all the extras that the Northfields bring to the table.
It also felt a bit heavier than the Beav, so
I had to weigh them..

.30 ounces isn't much but I guess its enough to feel a difference.
It's feeling good to have both versions of the GEC 97 Allegheny.
Having used both the Tidioute and the Northfield types, I do prefer the full flat ground blade of the Tidioute for everyday use. The Northfield has a stouter blade but it isn't as efficient a cutter. Regardless, I do like how it is a throwback to some of the historical features that were commonly found on this pattern.
Here is an example that is a lot like Charlie's 97 SFO. It lacks the forward nail nick but note the saber ground blade and banner shield. It's an attractive piece.
