Wow!... is what I said when I got this Northfield 97 in my hand. I do like the nailnick option and all the extras that the Northfields bring to the table.
It also felt a bit heavier than the Beav, so
I had to weigh them..
971119 / 4.35 oz
976119 / 4.65 oz
.30 ounces isn't much but I guess its enough to feel a difference.

It's feeling good to have both versions of the GEC 97 Allegheny.

Having used both the Tidioute and the Northfield types, I do prefer the full flat ground blade of the Tidioute for everyday use. The Northfield has a stouter blade but it isn't as efficient a cutter. Regardless, I do like how it is a throwback to some of the historical features that were commonly found on this pattern.

Here is an example that is a lot like Charlie's 97 SFO. It lacks the forward nail nick but note the saber ground blade and banner shield. It's an attractive piece.

Ah a little bummed out that I missed that nicely priced 97 in the KE today.
Atleast now I know good deals do exist!

Really enjoy this thread . Enough that I reviewed back to see if I had posted in it . On the way back through the thread I saw a number of names of some old friends that I see no more . I am allowed to feel nostalgic because of my age . There were some great photos of some great knives seen along the way back to early 2019 when I got my first and only 97 . I really like this Pattern and I like the way GEC pulled it off . Mine is what I consider to be a Safe Queen . This is the photo that I posted back when I got it .
