And the Buck of the Month is....

I go to shows. I talk to makers. The Bos heat treat used to be a discriminator makers bragged about. I own a Bump with Bos heat treat and Bos mark.

I think you are talking about the ann&tim show at CRK in your second senntence. But they “disappeared” their guru, we know where the Bucks are :)

However this is a Buck thread. Maybe Paul Bos did come in to develop the secret recipe for S45N as is implied in the ad copy, but then why doesn’t it state that directly?

This is a barely comprehensible reply, and it also implies that you think talking to a few makers means you're able to speak definitively on the quality of work from a company full of people providing a service.

As I said, poor logic. Here's a question for you, and I'll keep it a simple yes or no. Do you think Paul Bos in his decades of working managed to teach anyone at his company how do heat treats for various steels? Yes or no?

No I don’t think Bos taught anyone at Buck 10+ years ago, before he retired, how to heat treat S45N, since S45N came out in ~2019.

You seem to think that people aren't able to use similar processes on new steels. Curious. I'll take this post as an admission that you know jack about heat treats. Unfortunate.

I am quite fond of 212’s. One of the only knives I carry that displaces my 110 on my belt. I would probably buy a BOM

Thanks R runscott that one is part of my Cherrywood set.

Thanks Wild Willie Wild Willie that one is my favorite, jigged buffalo horn. 1of 13 made. I added the thumb notches on the spine. The W2 blade gained it’s beautiful patina from eating corned beef and cabbage. There is a wood layer in the middle of the handle 071D88B6-D3FC-4738-9F61-9DD366EB50EC.jpeg4B0646FA-4EDE-4E74-9845-4F8C95110083.jpeg

This was supposed to be a light-hearted thread.

In regards to the first few responses, my desire to have a 119 in magnacut in no way implies anything negative about 420hc. The whole point of the BotM program is sprint runs released using abnormal materials.

Let's take this a different direction, what Buck of the Month would you like to see? I almost picked up the 119 in 3v but let it pass.
Ah yes, I saw that one 😍
Idk why but I’ve been feeling the need for a fixed blade lately, maybe cuz I don’t really have any….anyway I went with a Ranch Bowie, but if I see that specific 119 on the secondary in the future I might pick it up.

I really like the blade shape they did on that one, and the steel is what I wanted in a heavy duty Fixed blade.
Pic just because…it’s sexy

Nice. I could be happy with any of those, but especially the one on the far right.
Those are great little blades. I gave my Copper & Clad 212 Ranger to my younger son (the other got a 105). Made a better sheath for it, though; the original was OK, but not up to the quality of the knife.

I won't buy when the price is way higher than retail.
Same. There’s a guy on the Bay (not gonna mention his name), and he has new/rare knives all the time, for way over retail….but his feedback is outstanding, so if he has something I’m interested in, I’ll email him and work out a deal to avoid the fees (they take like 15% from the seller, and buyer pays tax I believe), and I usually get a decent price, and he avoids the fees too, it’s a win-win.
Devils advocate,
In all fairness, the person who pays up front for a knife they don’t want is taking some risk…and for people like me who don’t always have $500 play money in the bank, it’s the only way we can ever get some of these rare knives in NIB condition…
My collection would be way smaller if I didn’t buy anything new on the secondary

Many people are happy to buy an item from a seller for $170 knowing that he paid $200. But if he asked $230 for another item he paid $200 for, he's the devil himself. I have had an antiques collectibles business for over twenty years and it's always been that way. Even if a seller is running his business purely as a hobby, he has to make money on some items to cover losses on others.

The only sellers I have a problem with are the ones who have the ability to take things from the market before others have the chance to see them, then mark up the price. Similar to ticket scalpers.

The 212 sheaths are terrible. I modified mine so they’re useable. 456B02B0-353D-470C-9834-5A58B80BEECB.jpegF3E8D5EE-EDAB-4ABD-AB1A-D64F483483E8.jpegD70D233A-46DA-4344-96DA-3D4A6D595655.jpeg
This was my first try. It worked so I ordered the correct size silver rivets. The rest came out better. Sits high and doesn’t flop. It mimics the feel of a 110 on my belt.
