And The Snark Goes On

It's been like that here as well. Perfect weather. Love the cooler weather. Hard to believe for July. It was nice weather when we went to Missouri a few days ago as well. Removal team, haha. :D

Btw, did you make the chair table combo? I remember you telling me some time ago, that you were teaching your son how to make Adirondack chairs.

No, we didn't make that. Actually got it on clearance at Menards for less than the materials would have cost.

Bought an Eno Restnest/Traveler hammock at STP a while back for $20 just because of the price. It's just been sitting in a closet. Got to reading yesterday about the Eno Atlas straps which, unlike the SlapStraps, are supposed to be no-stretch, so I went to REI and got a set. Durn nice suspension with lots of reach and plenty of adjustment loops. I have a spare fly from one of my Hennesseys, so all I need now is a good bug net. Will work great for the kids or for a quick-up hammock when car camping. Could also work as a backup or gear sling with a Hennessey.

Vik, can you send me intel on those growlers you had at Ethan's? I want to see how they stack up against this one: http://shop.yazoobrew.com/collectio...zoo-nashville-skyline-stainless-steel-growler

Murph, I may have to grab one of these:

I have been busy fondling my new Kill Devil Sniper Hawk and BK-11 CSM.:D

Sounds like a great pair!! Dont be scared to throw that hawk either, they fly like a dream!!!

Snark level low.

Sorry bout that.. last minute trip to the woods and all :D

worldwood, you've created a peanut butter mixing monster. I have a new hiking breakfast. Not only is it crazy cheap (80 cents and that includes tax), it tastes great, is compact, is easy prep, and packs a walloping 510 calories.

Funny stuff, this morning at the campsite i was smearing some PB on some toast and made a comment that i could go for some grits... My wife says.... "I wonder if anyone else adds PB to the stuff you do" I just showed her that picture of the oatmeal and PB and she started laughing. :D

Had a great time, We got there plenty before dark and actually got to use the site we normally pay for since it was empty. We did however forget to grab all/ANY of our flashlights, even the lantern.. SO come night time we stayed close by the fire, luckily we were able to get enough firewood to last through the night before it got dark.

Slept in my hammock, no bug net, no tarp... Still got almost 5 hours of sleep. Went to sleep a little after 3am, woke up a little before 8!! Awesome stuff. Got sprinkled on for about 10 minutes in the middle of the night but it didnt bother me any.. Not even enough to get up and throw one of the cheap blue tarps up. Wasnt even a little bit cold before that... After that it got a little chilly but i had my sleeping bag next to me so i just grabbed it and laid on top of it and was perfect. I tried getting inside it but it was TOO hot inside it. Laying on top of it was perfect though.

Me and the wife tried everything we could to both fit in the hammock comfortable enough to sleep but it wasnt happening, We could sit and watch the fire in it no problems, but when it was time to lay down nothing was working LMAO... My wife says no way its made for 2 people.... Together we weigh under 300 pounds combined but still couldnt sleep in it together comfortably.... so she slept with the kids in the little pop up tent we brought. We have a HUGE 6 man tent but we only usually use that when we are staying out longer... But now my wife wants a hammock too... The 4 of us will all be hammock camping before long i believe.

Didnt take many pictures. And only brought 3 knives with me this time...... The 3V chopper from Crimson was the most used blade on this trip.. And it performed excellently. I had the Giedymin with me as well but i didn't really feel like hauling it around with me... It doesnt have any sheath yet, and is sharp as sin so i have to carry it in hand... And that gets old... Its heavy LOL.. But i figured out a way to rig the Crimson to my little Teton Oasis1100 bag.... And then that big bulky condor bag, with the giedymin wrapped up inside went into the trunk for the rest of the trip LMAO

The Teton Oasis1100 easily fit a change of clothes, hammock, straps, survival gear, Sawyer water filter, camera, smokes and extra smokes with no issues. That bag ROCKS!!!

Here are my 2 lonesome pictures LOL.... No pics of the Teton, it was on my back!!

Im REALLY glad i went with the Atlas straps. I love them, it makes hanging the hammock literally take a minute or so. The extra places to attach the carabiners are great and i have noticed NO stretching, even when me and the wife was sitting in it swinging we noticed no stretching. Great straps.

Thanks Dex!! Otherwise i would of bought the slap straps.. But Dex pre-warned me about the stretching.

same brand - you're just paying an extra $10 or so for the paint job.
fifty/fifty stainless growler -- mine is the first gen - just like that one, with the more rounded shoulder.
the newer style is an inch taller, more square shoulder, and 1/4" smaller diameter.

so for dinner last night I found out my new charcoal burns hotter than the stuff I was using and charred the bacon on all 5 venison bacon bombs.
OTOH, it was cheap bacon and did it's job keeping everything wrapped inside it nice and moist, so I didn't feel too bad about it.

Awesome trip WW! I wish I had gotten the atlas straps instead of the slap straps but they were a gift so I can't really complain, but I need to get some new ones any ways, mine are way to stretched out and one of the loops is ripped off

Just threw in a dollop of peanut butter in my oatmeal this morning to see what all the fuss is about...okay good call guys. I think Guyon might be on to something with his hiking breakfast, I'll be giving that a try next month.

Honey is good to carry too. Actual food, high in calories, good for a blood sugar bump, aaaand its a natural antibiotic...plus it doesnt spoil.

Yeah I carry honey packets too when I have some handy. It's always good to have a hit of something sweet after a few days in the bush.

Honey/peanut butter blend? Be still my heart

My in-laws threatened to throw me out of TN for putting honey on my cornbread. I thought everybody did that?

I grew up going to Menard's. Apparently I moved just south enough to miss the last one. Home Despot and Slowes' just ain't the same.

I'll have to look into those; I'm not 100% thrilled with straps we have for our hammocks.

And yea i wouldnt complain for free either LOL!!

Well, a little pissed today, just got a text from the mother of the boy that I helped with his 4H project. He and I made a killer gun sling totally by hand, turned out great, (had a pic on here last week) anyway, his mother sent me a picture of the gun holster that won first place. I sent her back a link to where they bought the kit for it. It sucks that the judges don't know the difference. Ours was 100% handmade, and some kid buys a kit and slaps it together and wins. Happens every year.:grumpy:

That blows :grumpy:. Send the link to whomever runs the project/contest. In fact, go ahead and sign them up for the Tandy catalog.

Sorry to hear that Todd. I bet the value of the passed on knowledge and pride in making a handmade item is greater than the value of a hollow victory.

One of my buddies enters photo contests in the local fairs every year. He actually goes on trips to find the perfect picture. Amanda and I went to support him and check out his competition. One of the winners in a category he entered was this crappy picture of an ugly dog poorly printed onto computer paper. I told him that anyone with a brain knows that his picture is better and asked him if he cares about the opinions of people without brains.

I know that is a little crude but, popular opinion doesn't have to be the best opinion.

Anybody else suffer from knife nut hand condition? Also known as premature baldness of the hands. Sheesh, I'm running out of places to test my blades.
