And This Is What Started It All - UPDATED

You got the fever. We can relate.

If I can give one recommendation for the long run...don't outrun your headlights.

Enjoy all of the knives you've been adding to the collection, but begin to get more discriminating with each new pick.
Remember, Rome Boise City wasn't built in a day.

Well Outlaw, it’s obvious you don’t screw around, jumped in with both feet! Your collection, so far, is almost identical to the one I started with a few years ago....actually yours is of somewhat higher quality. Now, several years later, if I counted mine, the number would be well over 100 and the investment substantial. They’ve given me a tremendous amount of pleasure and I love tinkering with them as well. So congrats, here’s hoping you get as much pleasure from your collection as I have with mine. Welcome to the forum from a fellow Oklahoman.

Thank you fellow Okie!

To be quite honest, I only intend to add about two more, with one of those being a Hinderer.

Welcome, Outlaw.

Start looking for a second job, and I hope your wife is understanding.

You've made some excellent choices for just starting your knife collection.

Thank you, sir. I tried to do my research as best I could.

Living in the woods in Oklahoma there aren’t many places to go check ‘em out. Tulsa & OKC are 2 to 3 hour round trip drives.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the nice collection!

Very nice pictures you have posted as well - I like pictures of knives!

I am originally an Okee from the Lawton area - but moved when I was very young.

Enjoy your knife collecting!!

best

Nice jump into the pool!

Started out with some really nice models.

Spyderco is one many don't immediately take to, until they have had one in hand to sue and feel. All about feel and use in hand.

Now....to add blood to the shark tank.....take a gander at the Traditional sub forum. Great Eastern Cuttlery is producing folders that rival the classics from the Golden era of slipjoints.

They make GEC, Tideoute, and Northfield brands. And quite a few limited runs for others.

Now you need to look at high end productions like Busse, Swamprat, Scrapyard, and Carothers Performance Knives, and customs.....both folding and fixed.

When you start comparing mid level production knives, let alone higher end production knives, I start steering people towards custom makers. Often you can find amazing customs for equal or less than mid level production knives.

Welcome!!

Just because you’ve collected so many so quickly, I’ll give you a tip that I have a very hard time following myself:
Give yourself a day or two to decide if you really like a knife before you decide to use/sharpen/modify it. Knives can generally be resold without a great loss if you don’t immediately start monkeying with them...
