It's worse than being addicted to crack. My uncle went through rehab many years ago, and he said, just the other day, after seeing me getting goofy over my latest aquisitions, that he thinks I have a worse addiction than he did. 
I told him that at least I can sell or trade these to get another or a different one. He couldn't do that with the drugs. He said, "at least there is that."
Welcome to the world of hiding things, making up excuses, stashing money away for a new one, etc.
Honest to God, my biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all of my stuff for what I told her I paid for it.
She'll be losing out on a LOT of money.
