Brian, I know you have kind of sworn off SFI but all the particulars of the projects are there. I was a bit suprised to see Randal take his boards down but admit to have not been following that one much. I still use your pictures of the busted Hanwei Godfred blade on a regular basis. Thanks again for your help on that.

Horseclover: Yes, I was thinking of a cutlass having frequently seen the terms cuttoe/cutlass used interchangeably. Thanks for the pics. In this case they are worth a thousand words.

I guess I will have to settle for something else with a D guard or relatively unadorned basket. Most of the available cutlass-length pieces of this description are of questionable quality. I think if Gus made such a piece it would have the qualities I want; It would be very serviceable, simple and not outlandishly priced. But that was just wishful thinking.
