That 12 is so nice! Can I get one with cocobolo on it?! :) For my Sunday-go-to-meetin' rig. And a burlap micarta version, for the hog hunting rig!

Dylan, are you going to be able to do kydex for that one?

Kydex aint gunna happen on these. Not by me at least. Andy and I were discussing that over lunch today. To do kydex for these (Fletcher clean kydex) would cost the customer an arm and a leg. Plus, I just straight don't want to make 600 kydex sheaths, so Andy's looking at other options. That machete we tested was AWESOME! They have a great amount of flex to them and they sink DEEP into wood with proper machete technique. I cut all the branches off that little tree we sacrificed and every branch flew off with a simple wrist flick, not even a swing, just flicking my wrist. Being as thin as they are makes them bite really really deep and they blades finish is perfect for not letting it get stuck. The blade pulls right back out. I was really impressed and I might have to steal one of two of those. I think I need a 12" and an 18".

Side note: It was great getting to meet Halfserrated. Helluva nice guy. He really knows his stuff and has quite the impressive collection. When he said he dug my knives, it really made my day. Considering the show&tell items he brought over, this is a guy who is giving a seriously qualified opinion. Thanks for stopping by brother. See ya at Blade! Also, I'm getting ready to start grinding your Hatchula right now.

-Dylan

Andy, what would happen if a scandi grind was tried on one of the 12 inchers? Just thinkin' is all!

Its a machete. I'm going to have 600. If you want it Scandi, you got it.

Actually, I don't see much difference between a machete grind and a zero scandi convex. So why not.

Dylside, Halfserrated and myself did a bit of quick testing on one of the samples yesterday. Just wrapped the handle with duct tape, and put a quick edge on it. The edge held well, it was batonned with a stick and with a rock. Also bent the hell out of it and it snapped right back into place.

DO WANT!!!

These are sample models. There were issues to be fixed. Which is normal I think. I am likely going to wait to sell any until the production models come out. But I was thinking of doing passaround with one of these samples. I'm putting some really gorgeous - get this - curly quartersawn Red Oak on 4 of them for Blade Show showoffs. I think I'm going to do two drawings on Saturday of Blade Show for two fo the four samples. I'm going to do a passaround of the 3rd sample at Ramanon. And lastly, the 12" will be all mine.

Dylan, thanks for the comments. It was really nice to meet you and Andy finally. You both are a couple of great dudes. If I wasn't 2 1/2 hours away I would really dig hanging out in the shop with you two some more.

Dylan's knives are top notch. It's kinda hard to believe in such a short amount of time that they are turning out the way they are. But you did have a very good teacher.

On a machete note, those things are nasty. The edge was put on the test dummy in no time and the burr was left on. No rolling or dulling whatsoever. It cut extremely well with very little effort. It would sink half way into that tree we were using with just a wrist flick. Can't wait to get one.

Awesome! I really, REALLY, REALLY want to participate in the Rammy pass-around, but I can't really justify it since I don't have anything to use a machete on out here. Stupid desert! If I still lived in Illinois, you best believe I'd be on that list. Out here the most use it would get from me would be chopping onions from a foot and a half away :P

Machete's dig pretty well.... Even in the desert sand.;)

Be sure to come by the table at Blade Show. I'm going to give two of those away with some gorgeous curly quartersawn Red Oak handles.

Should have the handle done on the first one today!

Pics of first finished machete. The handle is curly quartersawn Red Oak. Three 1/8" steel pins and one Bullseye tube. Its the 18" model. The production models will have some of the kinks worked out, but I can't resist handling these samples anyway. The handle on all the machete's is 6" long.
