The 2010 CKCA Collaborative Knife to benefit lung cancer research has been finished.

This aprox. 13" OAL Semi-Integral Fighter of CPM-154 has graciously been created by CKCA members Edmund Davidson, Barry Lee Hands, Steve Johnson and Wolfgang Loerchner and Paul Long. Chuck and Mary Ward have taken the photos and designed/created the promotional materials.

A big thanks to each of our team members.

Basically, the tasks have been/will be completed as follows:

Edmund Davidson - machining/profiling of knife
Steve Johnson - grinding/polishing/maker's mark
Barry Lee Hands - engraving
Wolfgang Loerchner - handle
Paul Long - the sheath
Chuck Ward - photography/promotional material creation

Blade Magazine will produce an article on our benefit knife which will appear in their 2010 Blade Show Issue.

As many of you know, each year the contribution from the CKCA's benefit knife goes to a different Cancer Research Foundation. This year's recipient is the Lungevity Foundation. http://events.lungevity.org/site/PageServer

The Lungevity Foundation is a Four Star rated (highest rating) charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for lung cancer research.

Here's our process/rules for awarding this beautiful knife:

• We will offer 200 tickets @ $100.00 per ticket.

• CKCA members get a 24 hour advance window ahead of the general public to purchase tickets. Said CKCA members can purchase tickets on-line via CKCA website on Monday May 31 @ 6:00pm EST – Tuesday June 1 6:00pm EST. CKCA members can also purchase tickets via cash or check on Thursday June 3 from 6:00PM-10:00pm at the CKCA Banquet in Atlanta.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday morning June 4 @ 11:00am at the CKCA Booth located in the lobby of the Blade Show in Atlanta and on-line via the CKCA website*. http://www.customknifecollectorsassociation.com/Benefit_knife.html

*note: though unlikely, it's possible due to CKCA member advance purchases that tickets could sell-out prior to being available to the general public on June 4.

• A limit of 10 tickets can be purchased per person.

• Our Drawing will take place at the AG Russell Knife Event 2010 at the CKCA Booth on Saturday July 31 in Rogers Arkansas. Exact time to be announced.

AG Russell / AG Russell knives has agreed to manage the raffle drawing process by verifying the ticket accounting and actually drawing the winning ticket at his show.

Feel free to post any questions and/or comments below:

With such an amazing knife in the center of this event,
it will be electrifying!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

This knife is among my favorites of all time. The ivory handle carving and the engraving is so clean its unbelievable. A stunning example of artists that can work together for a great cause. Congrats to all people involved.

An incredibly beautiful collaboration, and I also applaud your rules for disbursing the tickets. It gives the members first rights, and gives everyone who buys a ticket a chance to win the knife of a lifetime. Many congratulations.

that is one wild blade! The eye just cannot stop roaming.

With Edmund Davidson cutting out the blade and Steve Johnson
grinding it to perfection one would expect nothing less...:)

not to mention Wolfgang's handle and Hand's engraving:eek:
(I should have used the word 'knife'- I meant the entirety, not just the blade:))

Well technically speaking it is one piece of steel from blade tip to handle butt. ;)

Kevin,

I really like the looks of this knife. The Chuck Ward photo above really shows it off. I am looking forward to seeing this knife at the CKCA Booth at the Bladeshow.

Since it was made by Edmund Davidson, Steve Johnson, Wolfe Loerchner and engraved by Barry Hands makes this a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a unique knife. I doubt that they will ever again collaborate on a knife.

The fact that it is to be auctioned off for a great cause like Lung Cancer Research is another reason that I can't wait to take a chance on owning this knife.

Congratulations to all of those involved in this project.

I received this knife the end of last week and was really impressed with it.
It's not only a beautiful "Art Knife" but a great knife all around.
The makers really went all out on this piece.

Please come by the CKCA booth at Blade Show and take a close look at it.
We will be in the lobby right near the entry doors.
Purchase tickets to possibly to win this knife @ http://www.customknifecollectorsassociation.com/Benefit_knife.html

Thought you may enjoy seeing some photos of our knife coming together.

By the way, since our participating makers/team members have been so generous in not only donating their labor in creating the knife but their expenses for materials, outside services, photography, shipping (this was a substantial cost as the knife traveled over 17,000 miles total) we will have incurred very little expense for this project. The CKCA will cover printing cost for our promotional and admin materials out of our general fund, resulting in 100% of proceeds of our ticket sales going to the LUNGevity Foundation and Lung Cancer Research.

Remember, we start offering tickets next week.
A link will appear at the bottom of the webpage below when it's time.

ALSO
The Lungevity foundation has supplied the CKCA with a page on their website where we will be able to receive donations from folks visiting their website who have most likely never been exposed to custom knives. Here's a link, and be sure to check out our photo album. I've tried to supply some photos/content to perhaps get visitors interested in custom knives.

If you are not planning on participating in our raffle, please consider donating to this worthwhile project through the button on our Lungevity webpage.
Even $10-$20 will help and be greatly appreciated.

I predict fast raffle ticket sales. This is such a great knife, I would think there'll be a few people who sign up with the CKCA, just to get that 24 hr advance chance to purchase the 10 ticket maximum!

I've already started my own personal countdown for 6pm Eastern on May 31st, to make sure my fingers are fast on the computer, so I won't go without several of those tickets, since there are only 200 to go around.

Best of Luck to All!

Just wanted to bring this thread back around as I'm about to head to Blade Show.

We had a very successful 24 hour sales period for CKCA members yesterday.
It turned out as I hoped in that we sold a lot of tickets, however there's still some available for when they go on sale to the general public on Friday morning @ 11:00am est at Blade Show and via our website.
