Announcing the NEW 1500-181 Cigar Cutter!

I have a feeling Les wanted a PIMP cigar cutter for when he gets together with Sal Glessar, Chris Reeve, etc. to show off. :D

I really don't want to jump on the critique band wagon but when the most expensive cutter on a certain largely known online retailer who sells everything from A to Z has only 1 "cigar cutter" over the $1k mark and the rest all under $500 I really have to wonder if there wasn't some pricing mistakes made. The $1k is Wenger Porche Multi-tool and anything with the Porche name slapped on instantly gets its price increased by at minimum 3x the original price and nothing with the name is sold for less than $100.

So the $460 Xikar cigar cutters are made in Asia as far as I know. This was a very limited edition, made in the USA with higher end materials...patent pending.

Mostly saying that it seems a tough sale at that price point I don't mean it as a miss in terms of what you put into it. This was based on a less than 5 minute look. I don't doubt the quality of the materials in your product, as I do that $500 ones I found, but it just puts it out there kinda alone at least at first look.

I think his point was that you're alone in the market. Knife guys aren't really "getting" it. Cigar guys may not either. But I have a feeling this was more designed for the Benchmade collector that seeks out limited edition things with the butterfly logo on it.

I just spent a couple of days in the Warwick/Providence Rhode Island area. I was at loose ends on Saturday morning and used the Dealer Locator on the Benchmade site to see what was around. Turns out there was a Premium Plus dealer about 5 miles from my hotel -- a cigar shop! I don't know anything about cigars, but this place looked like it was really well set up, and pretty busy. They had a knife case with a nice selection of Benchmades. The guy who helped me was really into Benchmades, and asked what I was carrying. I showed him my SAK -- no Benchmade because I wasn't sure what was legal in RI.

I asked him about the 1500-181 and he smiled. They had one come in which sold immediately, and he didn't even get to see it because he had the day off. I got the impression that they could have sold more if they could get them.

I left there with a new 575 and a couple of spare pocket clips that he offered me from a small case full of the various BM clips. He even swapped the clip on the knife to the left side so I could leave with it in my pocket (575 blade length is just legal in RI). Love the 575 and the dealer was awesome. Just bummed that I didn't get to see the cigar cutter.
