The last post I made about Bark River turned south pretty quick so sorry in advance.

Anyways, I posted about a problem with a knife about a month ago, but could never follow up with the resolution before the thread closed.

Finally a resolution! Bark river called and offered to refund me or replace my knife. Great! I sent it in (at my expense) and told them they could replace it or refund me, whichever is easier for them. Got a call today saying they couldn’t refund me or replace it because it was fixable. That probably means a noticeable portion of my blade will be gone. I specifically told them the first time I talked to them that I did not want it repaired. I would rather do it myself on my stones so they don’t F it up on the grinder. I would have never wasted money to send it in to get reground. To top it all off they charged 25 bucks to send it back to me despite the knife being flawed from the factory and not fulfilling their agreement.

Had to get that of my chest sorry. Not trying to stir up anything like what happened in my last post. Just want to share the rest of the story.

So, they told you one thing, and then another when they got the knife in hand and suddenly their initial offer was off the table?

Huh. Definitely the actions of a reputable, quality company. Thank you for posting, hopefully some of this company's defenders will open their eyes*.

* Heh, I know, I know. I doubt it also.

That is definitely not a way to earn repeat business or encourage potential customers to look their way. Stuff like this is one reason I prefer to look before buying. After reading some of the stories about this company, it sounds like they should change their name from “Bark River“ to “Barf River”.

A $25 heat treat destruction service, what a bargain! All jokes aside, did you get the knife back yet? I wouldn’t be surprised if the problem wasn’t even properly addressed
Not yet, I’m guessing it’ll be here in a few days. The initial issue (wavy edge damage) MAY be fixed but will my knife look like a toothpick now?

Sorry you had a bad experience. I bought a BRK knife over a decade ago and carried it a bit while camping. As a lifelong MI resident, I wanted to support a MI company. After hearing/reading too many of these of types of situations, I unloaded my BRK a year or so ago. White River would get any future business from me.

While I don't have the low down on this company, a lot of mentions about it are negative. I wonder how they get the big distributors to sell their stuff?

If you want to support a local, Michigan business, I’d check out Hess Knives. Beautiful, Marbles styled knives, with blades made by Great Eastern Cutlery from 1095. They’re made to order, with all kinds of handle options too, which is cool.

Yeah that's what kind of gets me about their warranty service, used to hear about how they had this great warranty service, comparable to Esee's. Similar situation happened to me too but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, told me an atrociously uneven grind from the factory was definitely not something that could have been done by them, and since I'd made the mistake of attempting to resharpen it, was not something to be fixed under warranty. So I had to pay for their spa treatment to basically just refinish the knife and screw up the side they got right to make it even with the messed up side. Suffice to say, I was left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth. It pains me so much because I love their designs and have been on so many adventures and made so many memories with a Bark River on me that performed flawlessly, but goddamn stories like these are just too common to be ignored and are the reason I find it very difficult to recommend Bark River to anyone anymore.
