Another BRK post sorry

If you want to support a local, Michigan business, I’d check out Hess Knives. Beautiful, Marbles styled knives, with blades made by Great Eastern Cutlery from 1095. They’re made to order, with all kinds of handle options too, which is cool.

Are they still working? I have a hard time finding them. Someone told me a website they were sold on, an exclusive distributor I think, but I long ago forgot the name.

I saw a pic of a tiburon today and it reminded me how much I wanted to try one, but they are harder to find than they were 3 or 4 years ago.

I'll PM you. :)

It's a real shame, since they once had such a good reputation. I bought my Bravo 1 a few years ago and have been looking at a lot of their other models since then, but with the deluge of bad reports from so many different sources those acquisitions got put on the back burner until I hear a lot of talk about things changing for the better. There are just too many great knives out there being made by skilled craftsman right now to wait until things change.

UPDATE:
I received the knife. It looks pretty good aside from the same grind issues that it came with. It doesn’t look like they took a lot of blade height off. Really just looks like they took the waves out and made a steeper edge angle.

The description on the paper they sent back said the knife had been purchased from eBay heavily used and not taken care of. The knife was like new when I bought it. I had already made them aware of where it was purchased, and knife was taken care of and not heavily used.

Their description led me to call them again. I asked if the description was the reason they didn’t go through with the original deal to replace or refund me. They said because it was bought from eBay it was up to their discretion. Ended up arguing with them over phone for a while and finally got them to agree to refund me for the knife and shipping I’ve had to pay. Ultimately the guy on the phone did help me out and talked to the owner a couple different times to get it worked out. I guess I’ll send it back in and see how it goes this time.

That is crazy. Were they drunk or high when grinding on that blade? If that is how I received a knife back from a maker "repaired" I would be demanding an immediate replacement. Thankfully you were able to get the refund that they originally offered you.

Good on you for standing up to them. Sounds like they were trying to officially change the narrative from "they screwed up and had to make it right" to "the customer screwed up and we benevolently did them a solid". What a joke. Don't settle for anything less than a refund.

I'd love to hear the barkiets defend this one. Bad product and bad customer service. No way around it...

Man, this is terrible. You shouldn't have had to argue with them in order to be made whole. The fact is, it doesn't matter where the knife came from. When they received the knife, they should have seen immediately that the knife wasn't abused, and then honored the original statement. They wanted to argue, because you didn't buy the knife from them, or one of their dealers. That's crap, and it's further proof that Mike Steward is a dbag who isn't interested in standing behind his products. Such nonsense.

P.S. I watched your video, and it's pretty clear that their original grind job was the culprit. Criminy, use a jig or something if your grind guy's eyes don't work anymore, and their work is unreliable.

Based on my experience sending a knife in for warranty repair, this does not surprise me at all.

A $25 heat treat destruction service, what a bargain! All jokes aside, did you get the knife back yet? I wouldn’t be surprised if the problem wasn’t even properly addressed

$3 says they sharpen the spine and call it a day

They have never had a goood rep. They just put a muzzle on some of their crazies, but it's still the same hit or miss by a mile it always was.
