Ok, lets begin. Over the last couple of weeks I have sold DAMN near 1/3 of my collection to make ends meet:( . Today, we got a call saying our tax return is in and I convinced my wife to give me one GOOD knife buy with some of the cash. So below you will find a list of knives on my want list. I have included pictures of all of them as well. I ask that the fine folks here at BFC help me decided on which to go with. I ask two things of you guys. First, please help me choose from the ones on my list here. I have a HUGE want list and don’t need to add others to it. So please pick one of the ones I have mentioned. Second, please give me a sentence or two why I should get that particular selection. Thanks

First we have the CKT Brend Manual Action with Carbon Fiber Scales. This knife appeals to me b/c I have read reviews saying it rivals a Sebenza. I really like the design and the fact that it’s a Frame Lock.

Now we have the CKT Brend D/A. I love this knife, a Frame Lock D/A!! How can you go wrong. There is one main reason this knife is not a dead ringer. That’s the fact that it’s only offered with the standard plain scales as shown. If they offered the D/A with Carbon Fiber, I wouldn’t be writing this thread right now.(Pic borrowed from 2thehilt.com)

We have the Classic here. A Lrg. Decorated Sebenza. The one I have my eye on is the Spiderweb graphic. I don’t have to list the virtues of these knives, However I do want to add, I do have a Lrg. Mayonized Sebenza now. If I was Sebenzaless, I would also not be writing this thread.

We have a combo here. This one is actually considered one purchase due to low price. That’s One Custom Jim Burke Frame lock AND a New Microtech mini Socom Auto.
Due to the extremely great deals that are offered on both of these, I can get both as one buy and I am sticking to it!! The Burke of course is a custom and I have heard nothing but good things about them There is a review on BFC Here . And the Mini Socom Auto is just hitting the market and comes at a great intro price. The picture of the Mini Socom is borrowed from 888KniveRus

And last but not least, the Microtech Scarab. It looks like a great new knife from MT and I don’t have any OTF’s yet!! And a D/A OTF is what I would be after first.

I'd say go with the CKT Brend D/A

Just my gut -- I like the look of them, and the're rock solid and, of course, badass, can easily hold court with the seb

btw, with the mayoized sebbie, the spyderweb would just feel inferior!

I'd get the Jim Burke Frame Lock and the Microtech Mini Socom Auto combo...Two good knives is always better than one good knife.:).

I second the nomination of the manual Brend. I have a D/A, and just got a another to keep in the safe. The first is my EDC, and it goes as a bigger brother to my Sebenza. It was tight at first but has gotten so smooth that is equal to or better than most of my customs. I am so impressed with this knife that is why I got a second one for collection. The workmanship, and quality is equal to any of my customs, and I have many. The manual is made the same as my D/A minus the double action so know the quality would be equal.
My second vote is for the Burke as it is a framelock also, and it is hard to beat a framelock for lockup, etc. I have read some good things on the Burke but can attest to the CK & T Brend so feel either would be a good choice.
I would get either of the above, and an auto(knowing you like autos), and have the best of both worlds.
You already have a great Sebenza with the Mayoized one, and could not get one better than that other than if you like the fancier looking one so would eliminate that one.
With the above choices would make a well rounded selection, and variety.
Just my .02 cents rounded off to a buck twenty :)

Had you thought about a Scott Cook Lochsa? I feel about the Lochsa the way you feel about the simplicity of your decision if you didn't already have a Sebenza. I own both, and I'd say the Lochsa is the superior of the Sebenza in all the ways that caused people to love Sebenza's in the first place.

I'll even send you my Lochsa for a week if you want to check it out. I am currently in my Lochsa-evangelical phase, if you haven't noticed.

Hmm, let's see here. I've never owned any Microtechs, so can't really speak for those.

I'm a Sebenza-holic, so the Lochsa gaben mentioned appeals to me, too. You already have a Mayonized Sebenza, so the spider web Sebenza may not be enough of a new thing for you. Anyway, if your Mayonized Sebenza is a regular model, you'd probably want to get a classic, not another regular.

The Brend is a cool looking blade, but I can't get around the fact that you can't get a double thumbstud model. I hate single thumbstuds.

The Burke frame lock intrigues me. The price seems reasonable, so, if the quality is there, the Burke looks to be a great buy. For the price of the Lochsa, you could get two Burkes, so that's something to think about, too.

I love the blade on the CKT, but that blocky handle makes the Sebenza look like a svelte super model in comparison (which it is far from being). Why is everything so square?

You already have a Sebbie, so even though that spider web model is cool, I would pass.

That leaves my choice the Burke/MT combo. The Burke looks very nice and supposedly can back it up in function. The little MT auto has definite appeal. I would talk to a few more people if you could on the Burke and if you like what you hear, go for it.

I would go for the Burke and the Microtech. Why? The Burkes look great and I've heard nothing but good things about their maker. The Microtech is one of my fave patterns and making it an auto can only improve it ;)

The combo, try to carry one in the right side and the other in your left side....

Be carefull because in most of the states the auto´s are not permited.

I'd go for the Brend or the Sebbie with a slight edge given to the Brend because of the longer blade.

Definitely the D/A Brend. If I hadn't traded the Brend to Gadi I'd be kicking myself for trading it, but I'm still on the lookout for another. It is definitely the Sebenza of autos and was (and hopefully will be) one the most most dependable autos I've ever owned.

Thanks so far guys. I am leaning towards one of the Brends or the Burke/MT combo right now. I think you guys may have helped me rule out the Sebbie so far Keep them coming

"CKT Brend Manual Action with Carbon Fiber Scales"

Where do you buy these? Google search turns up zero.

Best places to check are 1SKS.com, 888knivesrus, and 2thehilt.com. I know 2thehilt.com has them in stock

(Edited to Add) I check out the three sites I listed. The only one that has the Carbon Fiber listed is 2thehilt.com and it appears they are out of stock. I am sure with money in hand, you can find one pretty easy. Here is a small review of the CRK Manual action

I'd go with the Burke and the MT. Although all those knives are so far above my normal beer budget I would rarely ever even bother fantasizing about any of them!

Reason I suggest that combo is that both of those knives are opposites, you get one lightweight, small, easy to carry spring operated knife, and one big, stout, classy kiss simple framelock. They'll both be fun and keep ya' entertained. Perphaps even well after the initial high and when you realize "damn...it's just another knife....it's not quite perfect...I need another one!" (or so it would work that way in my twisted little mind):D

Hope ya' enjoy the sweet agony of the tough choice, and get a knife ya' love outta the deal!

TBG,

In all sincerity, if you were Selling Your Knives to Make Ends Meet (!!!), do you REALLY need to buy another knife? OR has your financial situation changed so that you won't need to sell this knife (if you buy it) or any more knives to make ends meet?

Please don't take this personally!
