Imagine for a moment that there is a knock at ya door right now, you open it to find me stood there and I say " Come on we're doing a new survival show, grab one knife and let's go !"

I don't give any info on where we are going, what we'll be doing and how long it will be for !

What knife do you grab and why ?

Pics will make this thread much better !!!;)

Did anyone else just get up and go peek out the front window?

I don't have my own pic, but it is in post #19 of this thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/630985-Pictures-of-SDS-knives

It is my SDS Nessmuk. I know everyone is over Nessmuks now, but I find the blade shape useful for all kinds of things, since it gives me breadth, belly, and a centerline point. The flat grid is easy to maintain and I had Shawn make the spine flat for ferro rod use. Plus, it is such a beauty that I'd get a morale boost whenever I take it out.

(I'd also want to grab my Vic Spirit X when no one was looking as we head out the door).

from what i have i would grab my trail hawk because i can chop very effectively with i can use it as a splitting wedge and i can clean game with it although that is a bit of a challenge. from everything out there i would probably go for an ontario 12 in machete cause i can baton with and it chops decently enough and again i can clean game with it

CAT. 225Q.jpgFALLKNIVEN F1.jpgThats a tough question, as I have a lot of knives. I do belive it would depend on which one I had been playing with the most recently, when you knocked on my door. If you knocked right now it would be one of these three, BRKT Bravo 1, Fallkniven F1, Or most likely my old

ps This is my first attempt at uploading pics. forgive me if they dont turn out
pss. pic borrowed fron online.

I would take my Kephart by Bryan Breeden with me. Because it is just right for just about what ever we will need a knife for.

It is sharp ready for just a adventure:D.Lets go.

I'd take my Koyote Bushbeater right now. I have done just about everything you can do to a knife with it, and it can do everything at least good. It isn't the best at smaller tasks, but it got the job done pretty efficiently for a knife of that size. It is also my most used big knife over the past couple years.

I'll take some fresh pics of it tomorrow, weather permitting.

Right now I would take this one, It has a 7" blade length, and is 5/32" thick 0-1 blade.

Here is the kydex sheath I made for it.

Now if you were to ask me next tuesday lol. I might say this one.

IMG_0206.jpg

I have to put the handle on and then do the kydex sheath. 7" blade and is 3/16" thick 0-1. I have another one I am making but the blade shape is just a little different. So if you ask me the week after that I might say that one.

If I only get one blade I have found through practice and over the years of doing survival and out door skills I can do just about all I need to with a 7" long blade. from butchering game and fish to making shelters to making primitive traps, cutting and collecting firmaking materials.

That is what I am thinking as of right now but I may change my mind in the morning lol.

Jeff, I like the Kephart you got there:D. That cocobolo wood handle is pretty sweet:thumbup:

Probably would grab a Bravo 1. I have two to chose from.

It is heavy enough for light chopping and strong enough to do everything else. Did I say it is sharp too?

Also the sheath is kydex for wet conditions. A2 isn't stainless but pretty tolerant of wet conditions.

But, but... ahh screw it, I guess my LM Charge if multi-tools are allowed.

With my luck if I were to grab a machete, you'd take me to a desert:grumpy:

Wait, this is a trick question, the REAL ANSWER is I'd bring none and borrow one of your many, many blades:thumbup::D:thumbup:

Bryan[/QUOTE]

Thanks Bryan, I like it too, and you know I am wood guy.
Like the 7" Blade you have there. I bet it will be just the answer to Pitdog's adventure.

A new survival show eh? Well I'd imagine we'd be staying in a hotel between shoots right? So in that case my Victorinox Farmer SAK, the bottle opener would come in real handy for the mini bar. :D

Seriously though, I'd probably bring my RC-4. It's the most all around, jack of all trades kind of knife that I own and if I have no idea where I'm going, what I'm doing or for how long then that's probably the kind of knife I'd need.

Well, first I'd probably slam the door shut and phone the police to report the partially clad stranger on my porch.

If it sank in, who it was, before the police arrived, I'd probably call them again, er..........., no, I'd grab my Cincinatti Becker Machax. :D

Have no fear Doc it won't happen, it's obvious my survival show would really be ' Man, Dog, Wild ! ':D

Great choice in knife though !

I'd grab my ESEE-6 because it can do many different tasks, big or small. Great blade for the money!

hard call to make really .
Being that its a show .. everything provided so conveniently to hand to demonstrate what its like in a real survival situation when its actually not easy at all ..

if its playing in the more tropical areas , Id take my machete ..

DSCF1771.jpg

if its playing in the rest of the country , I reckon the ugly beast I made a few years ago would be the go . Its plain , but does the job it has to do and keeps on coming back for more .

a 9 inch sheepsfoot chopper with a nested tang and a composite handle.
The sheath is molded plastic with cordura exterior harness that can be used in multiple modes, including baldric.

The reasoning for my choice is hopefully greatest adaptivity to any climate or scenarios expected in the show. The obvious question is why not a shorter belt knife that would be easier to carry on wherever and whatever happened. For me, I have most success with a chopper type knife. If I was going to challenge myself I might go with something else like a tin knife.
