Another online retailer will not ship my order. WHATS HAPPENING?!?

Disclaimer: I have zero actual knowledge about any internal standards or policies at BladeHQ. However, I'm on the internet, so not only am I obligated to have a very strong opinion on a subject to which I'm truly ignorant, I'm also required to shout my opinion with an inappropriate and undeserved authority as though it is fact, all while possessing no evidence to actually substantiate any of my claims.

May I plagiarize you??

The funny thing about NY, is technically auto’s are not illegal
§ 265.20 provides that the “switchblade” restrictions contained in § 265.01 shall not apply to: Possession of a switchblade for use while hunting, trapping or fishing by a person carrying a valid license issued to him pursuant to § 11-0713 of the environmental conservation law.

Scan a copy of a fishing license etc, the penal cide and email to retailer. It is now legal to ship knife.

BHQ might simply be unwilling to be on the wrong side of a changing law?
Being one of the largest online retailers they will likely be one of the first to be targeted in the event of any crackdown or investigation. I agree with the other posters that their attorneys have told them it's better to err on the side of caution. It's one of the reasons, along with many others, I prefer to deal with the smaller family businesses.

I'm having the same problem. Luckily many other vendors still ship here. I'm not sure why they stopped? Even auto's are legal to own in NYC you just can't carry them in public. Swords, axes, bows and arrows are legal to own in NYC. Once again you can't carry them in public but there are no issues with them being in your apartment. I would be curious to know the reasoning behind not shipping to NYC anymore.
I’m in nyc too man keep getting denied . Do you know what site would ship an espada xl?

It is legal to carry autos with blade length 1.9''. I don't know that it is restricted to own.
It is illegal under federal law in place for over sixty years for any person or private entity to ship an automatic knife across a state boundary. The shipper - usually a seller - is criminally liable liable but the knife is contraband subject to seizure. Not a top priority for law enforcement, but there it is. Spyderco got nailed s over importing butterfly knife parts from outside the U.S. It's loss, between the fine and confiscation, was nearly $`1,000,000 in today's Dollars. (Somehow) "butterfly" knives are seen as automatics.) 15. U.S.C. § 1241, et seq..

I believe the issue is an extension of the case in which a NYC police officer argued that an a/o flipper was a switchblade. Since a decent flipper opens as easily as an a/o, one could be subject to a similar decision.
