This piece is 3.5" x 3/4". The twisted billet was made with about 30 layers. There are 11 full turns over the length.

Very cool, Mick. Are you going to try to do a full sized long gun barrel at any point?

Awesome Mick! I'd love to see the actual welding process on one of these sometime. I know yo're wrapping on a mandrel, but is it removed before you set each weld? How do you keep the barrel from welding to the mandrel?

Wow, man, that looks beautiful!
My sister would love that for her "carry gun." Maybe I can think about one. Her birthday is summer, hmm.

Thanks for all the comments about this. A few questions have been asked,

Joe, it would be nice to try a full sized barrel, perhaps one day.

Indian George, there is no tutorial but some more imfo can be found on this thread on britishblades, http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51310

Deker, the art is in not welding the mandrel inside the wrap, see above thread for more imfo.

David, this piece is not stainless just 15N20 and plain carbon steel.

Jim, it might look like 11 rings stack welded, but here is the billet before welding. A gentle spiral. The piece is leaning against a 12" swage block
