Another piece of damascus... what to do...

You're probably right. That's why I'm doing a scrapmascus folder first... to figure these things out.

Thanks for the link. I think I get it (but I'm not really sure I do). I'm going to have to play with the pieces before it really sinks in, I guess. I don't understand the benefit of the angled cut they suggest for the top notch. I do understand the need to reshape the bottom of the pivot area a bit, but haven't got that spring piece designed yet.

That's what I was talking about, the bottom of the pivot. The angled cut on the run up and back square provide a space for pocket lint and other junk to accumulate and not impair the function of the spring.

Greg, if you are serious about making slipjoints, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Don Robinson's book "Slipjoints My Way." It will explain everything you need to know to make a basic slipjoint.

This:

A two bladed folder is IMMEASURABLY more difficult than a single blade. A friction folder with damasteel blade, back spacer, and bolsters would be pretty nice. They're it all on some nice liners and maybe mammoth ivory covers, you'd be in business.
