Another Son of Bladeforums #85 - or - HJ5!!

I will post the patent pictures soon Jason!

To all I emailed, I meant November 15th, not October 15th - groan!

Here is the front/drawing page of the Napanoch (Carman) Patent Punch. The rest is legalese, that you can google if interested.
Nice drawings!

Charlie, is there greater ease in cutting with this pattern, or does it just look great?

Hollowing the body of the punch blade allows you to take a longer cut. The wider the hollow, the more variation in size you can choose for the hole. This style is pretty good, but I haven't cut thousands of holes with it. Tony Bose made a simpler one that is actually better, but that's Tony!:D
This Napanoch is actually better than the Robeson seen on many subcontract knives including an old Case I have!
You have to admit, this Napanoch IS cool looking though.;)

This is cool looking knife, The punch is fantastic :thumbup:;) was my first choice in pole that was run for the forum knife.

Well this knife has it all, ...pinched Bolsters, Teardrop design, a punch ( and what a punch! ), and then that Blade :eek:, then there is that great job done on the Bone!....yep..thats for me please Charlie :D

The punch on the Northfield in Nick's post #28, is actually a J.E.Cooper patent design from 1902, for Robeson Cutlery Co.
Bill from GEC, when he was at Queen, designed that tooling for my HJ-1 order several years ago.
Remember these guys?

Jake, your pic is a number 2, or HJ 2.
HJs 1, 2 and 3 were made by Queen

HJ 3 is the equal ender;

And HJ 4 is the BIG Equal ender from GEC;

Who'd have thunk you could learn so much about these knives in a couple pages? Great looking knives guys!

That's why we hang out here!:D

Very true! :D so many varieties of punch and its a shame that some of the intricate ones which do look great (as can be found in the old knives thread) are not made anymore for whatever reasons. So its good seeing a revival of some of these and I hope GEC can continue this into the future as they experiment with old patents.

I think Charlie raises the bar on these SFOs. Top notch fit and finish. The harness jacks and forum knife also have some of the best dyed and jigged bone that I have seen from Queen/Schatt&Morgan and GEC.

Charlie has made me fall in love with HJ's! I find myself
looking for them a lot more now! He has the best! It's a
very useful pattern, Looks dam good too!
Thanks Charlie!!
(That GEC SFO HJ,looks great! Great job Charlie.)

Hey Jason....I couldnt agree more, in fact it was Charlie who got me in here in the first place, now I am still wondering should I thank this man, or curse him? :D
My tastes are greatly swayed now to the earlier knife as you know Jason, and the HJ's are getting extremely close to what I call the perfect knife.
One day I hope to post photos of lots and lots of HJ's, Easy Opners etc, untill then I will continue to loose sleep on how to pay off my Visa Bill...actually Jason your name is on that bill as well my friend...mmmm, maybe I should slide your name over with Charlies on the list eh :D
Seriously guys...thank you to both, actually this thread is just awesome.

Folks, let's please be careful to keep commercial/dealer/vendor posts out of this thread so that we can keep it open for further discussion.
If you wish to post images then please redact the portion with any ordering/vendor/dealer info.
