Another Son of Bladeforums #85 - or - HJ5!!

I've got the Queen made HJ3 in Green bone. This knife gets better and better with use and is one I'd never sell or give away. I hope to be able to get the GEC version.

I'll have to get one of those GEC HJ's! Looks like
a helluva knife! The punch on Charlie's SFO is truely
a thing of beauty...

Finally got the HJ5 in my sticky little hand! GEC really worked hard to make this a functional piece (as they do all their knives!)
Fit and finish are great, and the punch is well engineered. Blade is nicely centered, and the relief notch guides your thumb to the punch nick.
Wiggle the point in at the edge of the hole you want and twist is around, once to cut it, and once to clean it - perfect!
A bigger hole is a little tough to get perfectly round, but medium and small holes are easy to get near perfect.
The blade was nicely honed, making it easy to quickly incise some initials in this scrap of leather with the blade tip! I love this sucker!!
As much as I love the etch - it takes me back in time - I imagine I'll be wearing it off soon!
"Get in my pocket", as an old denizen around here used to say!

GEC did a great job with the dyed and jigged bone but the harness jack also looks dapper all dressed up in black.

That Ebony, dare I say it almost looks better than the bone!...fantastic knife Charlie...great move with those knives Sir!

Thanks for all the kind comments, folksy ones!

Speaking of thanks, because I sourced some pre-ban tusk for GEC, they handled this one for me with a little colorful bark;

I am ever grateful, as it makes a nice one to add to the archive I am collecting of my SFOs.

Hi Charley -

Wow - I contacted one dealer who is very near the GEC factory and told him that I would be in for a #85 in elephant ivory - wow - that is just beautiful.

Maybe they will make some with two blades in that material - I am in for one if they do!

Thanks for the picture, Mr. Waynorth!

best regards-

Can't wait to get my hands on this new pattern...very cool

The ebony was as close to perfect as I could imagine. Then you had to go and post this. WOW!

Here's mine from the SFO. The awl is sharper and stronger than I had expected. It isn't just a toy. It means business!
