I just recieved info that a knife that I shipped to get repaired was stolen! the opened and torn up package was delivered but no knife... the USPS sucks!! what ever happened to the pony express?

did you insure it? you should have just insured it for full price and just gotten a new one.

Same thing happened to me recently. Shipped a Buck 112 w/custom open top sheath to my brother in St. Louis area for his B-day. Sent Priority w/insurance. Package arrived, opened w/no knife or sheath.
I went straight to the top. Found out about the theft on Friday. Emailed the Post Master General same day. Got a reply on Sat. After exchange of several more emails for giving them info, I was re-embursed the following Monday.
My knife disappeared in the St.Louis postal hub. According to my brother, a well known and publicized (in St.Louis area) hotbed of postal theft. Where the vast majority of employees are of the darker skinned type of citizenry. NEVER SEND ANYTHING of value thru St.Louis.

Are you saying that "the darker skinned type of citizenry" are by their very nature thieves, and that even when employed by, say the Postal Office, can't resist the temptation to steal?

Yeah, well, your "type" should keep your baloney speculations as to the skin color of the thief/thieves involved to yourself. It's not welcome here.

Post reported. :thumbdn:

I'm not implying anything. I saying straight out what the reported facts are. If the truth hurts, that's not my fault.
According to my brother who lives in St.Louis, it has been widely reported in the local news that the St. Louis postal hub is a hotbed of postal theft. And people are ADVISED not to send valueables thru that hub. It is also reported that most of the employees are black. And MY knife disappeared in St. Louis. These are the facts. Take them as you will.

from the movie crash... http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003437/quotes

Flanagan: Fucking black people, huh?
Graham: What did you just say?
Flanagan: I mean, I know all the sociological reasons why, per capita eight times more black men are incarcerated than white men... Schools are a disgrace, lack of opportunity, bias in the judicial system, all that stuff... But still... but still, it's... it's gotta get to you, I mean, on a gut level, as a black man. They just can't keep their hands out of the cookie jar.

Sorry to hear about that DCNFROST. I have a balisong on its way to me through the USPS at the moment and I've got my fingers crossed. I have shipped a lot of stuff through USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL and haven't had anything like this happen yet.

One thing I wonder is do they open it because they know how much it's insured for or is there some way for them to know what's inside? I wonder if knives are targeted or if they just open the box and take whatever happens to be in there. At least we can fall back on insurance (however annoying it may be).

You would think if the Post Master General knows about this problem in St Louis they would most certainly do some thing about it. I use the USPS with the up most trust. And I don't think the employees in the postal service is 100% at fault, If the package is packed right and wrapped right these things will not happen packages get damaged and things fall out. I have a friend that works for the post office and he says that if they sweep the floor and find a 100 dollar bill they are not allowed to pick it up, they have to get a supervisor to get it and then there is a pile of paper work that goes along with the find. There is also cameras in the post offices that keep an eye on every one and if they were caught picking any items up they are terminated and thats in there union contract.

Living in So. Illinois, virtually every package I send goes through St. Louis, and I have never had a problem with them.

Post offices are built with galleries above the work floor where Postal Inspectors can look down on people working.

When I was a supervisor, clerks would call me to go to where they were working to take even a penny or a nickel out of the tray of mail in front of them, afraid it was a plant by the Inspectors that only a supervisor was allowed to remove.

But theft does occur. One of USPS's best weapons against it is a report by the customer, which guides the Postal Inspectors to where these crimes tend to clump.

I went through that this week. I had a Priority Mail package that for some reason was showing that it was sitting for 4 days at a PO, when I emailed and asked if someone could check on why, I got back this form to fill out.

- Your home telephone number or preferred contact telephone number
- Full name of the sender
- Address of the sender
- Full name of the recipient
- Address of the recipient
- Type of mail (letter, large envelope, package, large package, or unknown)
- Class of mail (Express Mail®, First Class Mail, international, military, Periodicals, Priority Mail, Bulk Mail, Parcel Post®, Media Mail®, or none)
- Services added (Certified Mail™, Registered Mail™, Return Receipt for Merchandise, Insured, C.O.D., Signature Confirmation™, or Delivery Confirmation™)
- Label number
- Location the mail item was sent from (sender’s residence, other residence / business, Post Office™ ZIP Code™, Collection Box®, or unknown)
- Time and date the mail item was sent
- Contents of the mail item and value
- If you suspect foul play:
- Do you know who was involved?
- Do you know the name(s) of whom you suspect?
- Was it a Postal employee?
- Do you have a description?

I received 3 emails and finally a call from someone at the PO in question, all in one day!

Turned out the package had been delivered along with several others to the same address, and wasn't scanned properly, but they called the recipient and verified delivery.

I apolgize if my post sounded racist. I merely reported what I was told in my communications w/the Postmaster Generals office. I have not actually been to the St.Lous Postal hub to see for myself.
But they know there is a problem there. Let me ask you, When was the last time you heard of postal insurance issueing re-embursment within 3 days by order of the postmaster generals office?
To answer a couple of other posts. My package did NOT simply come open by itself. I ship packages fairly often and if anything I'm over zealous in securing my packages. It was neatly cut open and the contents removed.
To the guy that called me a dork. If personal attacks and name calling are permitted on this forum, please permit me to respond in kind. IMO You're an oversenstive PC pussy. I rpoerted the facts as they were given to me. If that gets your panties in a wad, not my problem.

I was simply reporting another knife theft and I wound up causeing trouble in the ranks, come on guys what gives. thievery is not a color thing it's a sickness that has crossed all boundries. I honestly hate a thief but if it helps keep food on a childs table then it aint right but so be it.
