After looking at Rileys new design it got me thinking ( I must stop doing this ) about maybe a pendant which could also be used as a last ditch cutting tool.
This was a quick design that I came up with, one side would be a sharpened edge and the other flat to place your finger or thumb on. There is also a finger hole that can be used for greater control. Some leather thong could be threaded through the small holes so it can be worn as a pendant and go un-noticed when out and about with sheeple !! With a patina it should look quite cool and rustic !!!!!

I know the pics rough as I'm about to go out so just did a quickie, but what's your thoughts ?

It would be around 2" long !

guitar-pick knife! looks pretty neat (and a little like an alien). would be cheap to make too i would assume.

LOL ! It does look like a guitar pick eh, my son already wears one of those on a chain round his neck !!!!

Maybe this could be called the Pick !!!!

Looks like a great last ditch cutting tool in my opinion. Coming up with a lot of these different ideas lately, Pit. Going to be getting any of them? :D

Interesting Idea pit. Yea something like that could be done for around $30 or less, I bet.

I've considered the idea of something similar, but I think that keeping a pointed and sharped object close to such a vulnerable area is just asking for trouble. However, you could case the thing in thin kydex and be much safer, even a very open design that shows most of the 'pendant'.

Neat idea Pit!

The closest I have seen are some of the amazing pieces by Ariel Salaverria. He does some pendant-style neck knives and small cutters that are somewhat similar.

I would want the blade to be protected in some fashion. What about a small leather sheath with a button that clasps through the hole in the knife? That would look neat and protect you from accidental cuts.

All the best,

- Mike

Now that I look at it again, I think it reminds me of 'The Scream', by Edvard Munch!

what if you put scales on it made from actual guitar pics, only exposing enough steel to make for a good edge....maybe thats dumb...ill just shut up now:(

I think you'd have to be pretty retarded to cut yourself from such a small pendant hanging from your neck....but I guess if something is possible then someone will do it !!!!!

If I remember right there was a similar design done by Ron Hood on the Hoods forum but I can't find a link anymore....maybe someone else can find it !!!!!

Hey pitdog, I think you're referring to the one by Rik Palm, mentioned above.

I like the idea, but how about just making it round like a discoidal flint knife? (I think that's what they are called). Seems to me like its too small for anything but slicing (particularly field dressing), in which case I would imagine a circle would be easier to handle, because there is no way you could use it like a modern handled knife. Maybe check out some of the old flint tools for ideas. Here's one way to make it "better" in short order; http://www.primitiveways.com/pt-hoko.html
When it comes to these types of ideas our ancestors had thousands of years of everyday experience.

What size finger hole did you have in mind???

I think it looks cool, but worry about the edge being exposed.

I like the idea of a knapped flint pendant. Useful for cutting and good looking, like an Arrowhead or something. Remember when Ragnar was selling those Viking pendants that could be used as a sharpening stone? I thought those were cool too.
