Another "WOW"

...He's snatched a number of pristine to NIB 112's and 110's out from under me in the past, always at the last second, from that "auction site"...only to take these great original knives and rescale 'em and file-work the blades to his liking. My pockets were never near deep enough...

...Every time...and in a week or two it was back up for sale at three times the price and all reworked...I couldn't very well bid against Madoff either...

Now that there is funny, would be really funny if it weren't so blasted true...I think there must be several of them...a family affair???:p. Preston

...Well Preston...for what it's worth, if I had "bottomless pockets" all those knives I was outbid on years ago would have been mine...LMAO. Just don't see nuthin' but the pockets gettin' even shallower these days. Hell...if'n ya got it though...buy with it...LOL...;)

I just happened to notice that on that stag 154 CPM custom 110 Gary was talking about (near beginning of thread)......in the seventh picture down--it shows a chip in the filework on top of the knife just before the blade.

Odd. Anyone else notice that? I hope Gary did.

Does it reveal a characteristic of the 154 CPM steel? I don't recall seeing a chip like that before on filework.

I noticed that but wasn't sure if that was a chip or a reflection from the way light hit it. I don't see it looking in the photos taken from other angles.

Look at the second photo, the close-up of the bolster. I've taken photos of polished and semi-polished surfaces and if you don't have a matt "tent" to place the object in, you can pick up reflections. The only way to tell for sure is to look at photos from other angles, or look at the object in person. The color and texture of the "chip" look something like the surroundings. Hard to say.

Maybe we can get some opinions from different computer screens ..... some may see it more clearly than us.

Anyhow......Gary be wary.

;)

I've decided not to bid, but anybody thinking to bid should ask for a picture that shows it beyond a doubt.

If that steel chips like that, I'm staying away from CPM.

Have one like it but without the ducks engraving. Very good knife and you got a good price. Couldn't make out the date stamp because of the pictures. What is shipping going to be for you?

Thanking Mr. Flatlander1963 I have solved a question with delivery to Russia.

Flat is a good guy to help out.

Looks like you got excellent steel and knife.

I have one of those. Good knife and very good price (I paid more).

I have a couple of those alpha hunters. Its my favorite Buck folder (for deer hunting)! I was going to bid on that one, but decided last minute to pass, I am glad I did LOL! Enjoy it garryale!!!!

It finally went for $157.50. or $162.85 shipped. Someone got a good deal I'd say, as long as that was a reflection picked up by the camera and not a chip. I'm very curious about that now.

Sambar Stag scales alone from the Buck Custom shop are $144.

Someone please come forward and tell! :D :D

PlumberD......I think he meant that someone here was helping him with that issue.

And Wolf, you're right, I guess the rocker would be a different steel from the blade. Thanks for the correction.

However, I have looked carefully at all the pics and if that's not a chip I will be truly amazed. No problem if it's a user, but if it's intended as a pristine and collectible display piece it's a very bad thing. "Wow, beautiful knife!" Then, "Well, yes......except for that chip......"

Myself, I never buy a collectible with a flaw, because all collectibles will eventually be sold and you or your estate will take a beating on anything with a flaw. Buying a user is a different story.

The final price, I think, was somewhat driven by the chip and the buyer bought a fancy user. Knives with good stag have been going much higher than that of late......and stag plus a premium steel should have gone quite a bit higher than it did.

And if I'm wrong about the chip.......then somebody got a REALLY good deal on this.
