Many thanks again, all.

I know I shouldn't be smoking and drinking and I appreciate the concern but my belief is that my death day was written with my first breath and there is not a thing I can do to change it.

The smoking and drinking affect the quality of my life for the worse but neither will kill me. I'll go when it is my time to go, not before and not after.

I pretty much believe the same thing Bill, but to me you're being foolish since you know better and are gonna do it anyway.
Stopping smoking and at least cutting down on the beer might, at least, keep you out of a nursing home later on when all you'll be able to do is sit and slobber and wish that you had done things differently.

It's a damn sight different when you're trying to improve the quality of your life towards the end rather than trying to prolong your life!!!! :grumpy:

Thanks for care and concern. But if I still have some good sense left and the strength to pull the trigger on my antique .38 I ain't gonna end up in a rest home.

From the vantage point of eternity we are all flashes in the pan. It’s humorous at times to watch transient beings struggle to prolong their brief existence, and search for security in an insecure world, while forgetting why they really came here.

Keep on dancing, Bill!

uncle bill,
i have no idea what you smoke, but here's how i handled quitting smoking cigarettes. first i must say that i LOVE smoking...the taste ,the little buzz, the hit at the back of your throat...i liked smoking from the my first puff at 15. i wouldn't have quit if it didn't make me feel crappy on a daily basis. anyway, what i did was quit smoking cigarettes and started smoking fine cigars. from everything i've read, there is little or no health effect from light cigar smoking (1-2 a day) without inhaling. i smoke 1-2 a week, so i'm really not worried about the impact to my health, and if there is one, it is acceptable to me. smoking good cigars isn't much more expensive (in fact it's probably cheaper these days...especially if you buy cigars online). i'm really happy with cigar smoking...for me smoking is now a treat...a chance to relax and enjoy something truely fine without any guilt about being addicted or worry that i'm ruining my lungs.

just something to consider...you don't have to give up smoking to reduce your risk...just make it something you really take the time to enjoy rather than somthing you've got to do or you start freaking out :)

ah well...don't mean to preach, i just thought i'd point out the middle road.

be well,
e.

Howard's got a point. When your number is up, that's it. Why do some survive death situations and others don't? Luck, karma, who knows for sure. I ride my bike 80 mph, no helmet with a FTW attitude. If I go down I don't want to live life as a quad. So do as you please, Bill. Keep on dancin'. The party will be over soon enough for all of us.

Great new Uncle! May God continue to protect your health so that you may help others both here and in Nepal.

Many thanks again to all for such fine support and wise advice. Howard, Semp, others who share the same philosophy -- this is what I plan to do, keep on dancing until the music stops.

May God extend his greatest blessings to all of you.
