Anti-knife movement

Well... what to say? I think most of you guys in the US are afraid for your rights and I really do understand you, BUT (there is always a "but", and a butt as well, but... :D ) if you look at it trying to understand those you call "sheeple", you can see that they need their government to act in a way or another... the easiest way is the bureaucratic one just because our governments nowadays are bureaucratic ones, but you will have to trust the LEOs and other "on the field" authorities, because they are just like you.
Those guys are no machine and won't clutch on you if you keep yourself from giving them a reason to do so, I think you can ask any police officer (many are participating on our forums, if they could express themselves, that would maybe help) . In France like in Finland (thank you for your answer TLM), we already have restricting laws, but I learnt to adapt myself about what I carry where I carry it and how I do carry my knives...
The only country in Europ I would worry about is England because they plan to use large scanners, in addition to all the cameras they already have in the streets of London, to confiscate any knives on the streets, there they really want to have total control, just like big brother, and THAT is real privacy violation :footinmou . The british government has always had strange and fancy ideas... the problems come when they really try it in real life, because they don't really know what is real life, and they never thought that such automated (and though supposedly perfect) applications could drive to misguided actions toward good citizens(it is already the case with their automated speed control system in London that has a more than 10% misreading problem with the plate numbers, so that they send fines to people who never drove their car in London...:barf: that is a pure racket) .
I guess those guys in the british government are descending from those guys who were pretending in the 60's that the future of aerial combat was no more of man's ability, and that only machines and guided rockets could win an aerial war. Remember: RULES (of any kind, just like machines, just like knives) are NOTHING without a MAN behind.
Hope this little thinking can enlight some of your lanterns :)

I remember when I was young carrying a pocket knife to school!!! Things certainly have changed.

About 7 years ago, when my oldest duaghter was in second grade a boy in her class pulled a sak on her threw her to the ground and told her he was going to do, lets say "inappropriate things" to her (to put it very conservatively). It took me going to the school superintendent to get anything done about it.

The problem, in my own opinion, is not to ban certain things, but we should look at the moral decline. Parents letting their kids run the home, no discipline, no practical parenting going on. Also the lifestyles some families live, completely inappropriate for children.

Not to mention all the other things we allow to go on. Calling good "evil", and evil "good". I believe our priorities on what is needed is mixed up to say the least. Blaming inatimate "objects" is just ridiculous. Its not the objects you have to worry about, its the person holding it. The logic of what goes on, with alot of these new laws is just not there, there is no good practical logic in this. The situation with my daughter had to do, as it turns out with the (alot of) parenting, and lack of good parenting, by this young persons parents. Many things came out of this no one knew went on in this childs home.

governments ban these things to play to the limp wristed liberals who want to see anything bigger than a toothpick banned. my age old argument to prove this is pointelss is

if you were a criminal and you have a 4 inch pocket knife and you decided you wanted to hurt or intimidate someone would you use small pocket knife? or that nice 3ft bit of steel pipe lying in the alley way? or that lovely 2x4 the builder left over there? or that 12 inch kitchen knife anyone can buy in their local store for £5? exactly...

Let's see here:

A majority of the people elect the "government."
The "government" bans __________ (enter item or tool of your choice).
Seems like the people are getting what they (at least the majority) want.

THIS IS CALLED DEMOCRACY!!!

Problem #1 - The majority does not always get their person in.
Problem #2 - The majority does not always demand accountability.
Problem #3 - THE BIG PROBLEM - apathy. Those that do not vote, or who are not active in promoting their point of view, those that don't write to their elected officials, rant, rant, rant.........

The knife community needs an NRA type organization!!!!!!!!!!!!!
