Here's a Brass easy open with patina, still some hammer brand on the master. I've seen quite a few schrade and remington brass jacks but not too many NYK's

Thank you all for the compliments on the display cabinet.

This little knife is listed as an "Orange Blossom" in the 1908 catalog. They sold for $2.00 each wholesale compared to the Barlow which sold for 38 cents each wholesale at that time.

Mark,

I really like that "Orange Blossom" knife. It appears they were made for men with really deep pockets - over five times the cost of a Barlow !!!:eek:

The HJ needs a lot of TLC, however, could turn out to be a real beauty ! Like the picked bone on it. ;):)

Mark, Charles (Chuco) posted a beautiful MOP with the Orange Blossom etch in post 51 of this thread. The 1908 catalog has the pearl version at $2.75 each wholesale. I think the retail price back then was probably marked up 100% = $4.00 for the bone and $5.50 for the Pearl. The reported 1908 history: "The average wage in 1908 was 22 cents per hour.

The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year .

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year."

Mark, two more great specimens! The Orange Blossom is super fine and in unbelievable condition. Great info Primble and Barry:eek::D
