Anvil Day!

I just finished watching the "makeing of" video Chuck made with the anvil, VERY COOL!!!!! it actually was not as complicated or involved as I thought it would be, that and Chuck probably makes it look easy :D. Provided with the video are a complete list of materials and suppliers for such, and I estimate personally, sourcing the materials I needed were I to make my own (with of course the equipment already, bandsaw, milling machine/shaper, welder, gas forge) the cost would be about the same beleive it or not.

I HIGHLY recommend getting the video if you are not able to get one of the anvils, it is an entirely doable project, and you could source out easily whatever you could not do yourself. It's cool to watch even if you don't intend to make your own to see what goes into making one.

Sam, What kind of sound does your new toy make? Does it have a ring or a clang? I've got Wayne Goddard's post anvil he made several years ago. I don't use it much mainly because of the noise it makes.

Ray, I have not used it fully yet, just a few test taps, it has a clunk but sort of a ring in the backgorund, not very high pitched or loud, barely able to hear it. In the video Chuck says he puts a piece of rubber conveyor belting underneath the anvil between that and the height adjustment plate, which helps alot with the ring. When I have forged on it (tommorrow) I will let you know more.

Man, I don't know how you do it. I tried to forge a little today (AGAIN!) and I just am not good at it. Maybe one of his anvils would help :D Can't believe you have tried it yet...

I will be working on it tommorrow. I hardened my sword today and it went great no problems, but my grinder motor fizzled :(. So no finishing of the sword tommorrow, not until I get a new motor or get mine fixed, so I will be forging.
