Recommendation? Any 2021 Case-made Cattaraugus knife reviews?

How is the quality control on the more expensive Case-made “Cattaraugus” brand knives?

So a little reading indicates that Cattaraugus was a company Case split from, which went toes up in the 60’s. Now Case makes some knives under their name? (Watch out, Tideoute/Northfield! 😜)

So I’m familiar with Case and their collectible historical rebranding of some of their knives; typical Case prices, typical Case quality. This recent run of Cattaraugus is interesting because of the copperlock-style blades on a trapper pattern. It’s more interesting because of the GEC prices on a Case knife.

If it’s the same Case quality, though… well my interest would quickly die off. So, what can anyone say about these recent Case “Cattaraugus” branded knives?

I did a cursory Google search to see if this thread already existed and didn’t come up with anything, but I also can’t imagine you folks haven’t talked about this so forgive me if this is old news in a new thread.

Wow, never heard of it! Can't find any info on Case website. Could you please give me a tip on where to look?

Okay, I'm back from the Google. 😁
Very interesting. I like the shape of the Clip Blade.
Edit: the Older Run had ATS34, this run is True Sharp. :(
Alas, they are just Large Trappers with and inflated price tags.

It has ATS34 blade steel, which is a nice upgrade.
Given Case's ability to do nice covers, excellent pin work, and now with upgraded steel, I'd say they are a true contender at that price point.
I didn’t realize it was ATS34- that’s definitely a step up… why that’s not advertised on a certain herding site is beyond me. I agree with you on the shape of the clip.

certain Tennessee-base publication that you’re not fond of as well as on hills with people watching sheep
I guess that's because of the rule to not to mention stores/shops which aren't sponsors of BF. I don't get what are they, though...

It seems similar to what they did with the zippo knives. Maybe licensing to use the Cattaraugus name is more expensive. Or does Case own Cattaraugus?

I get updates from casexx and I never thought twice about those trappers, starting this thread will hopefully bring out more information and reviews of the knife. With true sharp ss and nickel silver scales, pins and bolsters it sounds like a nice build.
One question I have, are these being built by Case in PA or offshore. Edit, I did find 1 dealer advertising they are made here.
Can't wait to see some reviews from members who purchase the knife.

I’ve must have glossed over these in the past. Looks like a standard full size trapper with upgraded handle materials, swedges and a long pull on the clip blade. Not a bad looking knife, but not sure I would want to pay the up charge.

Edited to add - I would like this a lot more as a single blade knife.

I very much like the shape of the new clip with the long pull, it's just about as good as it gets.
But yeah, a better steel would be nice for doubling the price. I wish they'd bring back their BG-42, a great stainless.

I don't have one but I have a friend who bought one that I got to handle. It was actually very nice I thought. I liked the texture of the bone handles and really liked the blade shape. I do wish they had used ATS-34 like they did on the previous Cattaraugus line, but overall I quite liked it.

I saw them awhile back, they just look like standard case with a little more work on the main blade.

I don't think they even do them in CV, so it seems like kind of a wasted effort.

You obviously don't like Case, so save your money.
