Any advice on the Adventura?

I am attracted to the blade and handle design. The only thing that puts me off is the name. (Shallow me).

Now that I am reminded that the designer is eastern european , may I ask if the name also comes from that region ?

I initially thought it was a mix of Adventure and Aventura. I hope it's not. If it is, how do you pronounce it?

Partially, OT

Since I'm asking about pronunciaton, how do you pronounce Spyderco? Spee-der-cou or Spy-der-coh :)

Hi Joe,
You are somehow on the right track. "Aventura" is indeed the Romanian word for "Adventure". But I picked this particular name because it pronounces more like "Adventurer". During those days I was thinking this would be the folder an adventurer would carry. Later on I heard that adventurers usually like big folders (4 - 5" blade length) or at least so they say... :o

Oh, and I think it's "Spy - der - coe" ;)

Just ordered one right now. With all of the good praising of this knife, and knifeworks.com discounting to 69.99 I thought it would be a good knife to add to my collection.

Thanks guys,
Thanks Dialex,

Hi Rich. Please do come back and share your impression(s) - good or bad. Thank you for your support.

It arrived a couple days ago and im very happy with it. It came sharp right out of the box and the design is very nice for edc, its nice and thin, hardly takes up any room in my pocket. I would definately recomend it.

The knife came in on friday and I always carry my new knives for the weekend to test them out and all I can say is wow! it's wednesday and it is still in my pocket.

I really like the blade and handle design. everyone that I have shown it to has been impressed as well. the grind on this vg-10 blade really impressed me as well. It really makes me wish that my zdp delica and endura wave vg-10 felt this sharp out of the box. In my opinion, thinner grinds feel a lot sharper and are also easier to sharpen as well but this is only my 20th spyderco i am not sure if you guys should pay much attention to my opinions(you guys probably have triple my collection).

the ergos on this knife impress me a lot too. this knife has challenged my favorite knife (para military) for pocket time. I am a sucker for a finger choil and this knife feels as comfortable as my para. the slots that are cut into the handle lend grip to my fingers and also make the knife look cool as well. the size of the handle is large enough for my hand but feels comfortable in my pocket, even more so than the para.

the blade is my favorite part of the knife. it has cool slots cut out on the top and also has a unique shape. the belly is kind of curved inward and really traps any type of rope or string that is being cut. the blade curves outward, then back inward toward the point, kind of like a faint S. this knife cuts very well!

All in all this is an amazing knife. it is about the same length as the para but with a handle that uses less material and retains the same ergos. nothing has been able to get my para out of my right front pocket for the past six months until know. everyone should go to knifeworks.com and pick one up for 69.99, you won't regret it.

Thanks guys for reading this if you did. I hope you liked my review!

Thanks Dialex for a great knife, it's going to be a while until a new knife comes along that can please me as much as this knife has.
