Any benefit to clamping systems vs. Edge Pro?

I've been kicking around the idea of picking up something like a KME sharpener. I like my Edge Pro, but I have trouble holding the blade still especially on smaller knives with very little flat area to rest on the blade table comfortably. The only problem is the KME uses different sized stones, and I've already got enough $ invested into various diamond and cbn EP stones and don't really want to start over.

The other system I was looking at was a cheap KME/Edge Pro looking thing from China. It has a blade clamp that swivels, and it uses standard sized 1x6" EP stones.

Thinking about giving it a shot, but I'm just curious what you folks think that have used both types of guided systems. Does a clamp that holds the knife in place make a huge difference? I find that on most 3-4" pocket knives EP works best if I just hold the blade still and try to move it as little as possible.

Have you tried a real strong magnet under the Apex, if that is what you have? I find this really helps me keep the blade in place.

Yeah, I've got a neodymium magnet under the table, it works pretty good.. except when I use the small blade attachment then the magnetic force is weakened quite a bit. I got one of those cheap $15 EP clones off ebay a little while ago, I think I may just modify it a bit and trim down the width of the blade table so it works better for smaller knives.

I started with an edge pro clone I built and then recently got a wicked edge go, I like the clamp much better now since it allows me to focus entirely on the sharpening strokes and makes the process more laid back and relaxing since I don't have to concentrate on holding the blade down, you can have a couple beers as you sharpen and not mess anything up.

Our new product will help you to solve this problem. Will come in stock in Feb.

I use an ancient Buck Honemaster angle guide, basically a clamp, and sharpen freehand. There are several new angle guides available currently. It's an inexpensive solution that works well.

Can you use the full 6" of stone, or just the first 4"?

Are those KME and Lansky parts or exact copies?

So what is your reply to to brando555 brando555 's question? I don't know who the guys who made the videos you keep linking to are.
Watch the video. The official edge pro video shows you don't have to hold it on the flat and the other shows more tips and comparisons to the kme vs edge pro.

Please ignore my posts if your going to reply to every one of my posts like this. I've asked you to do this before. Please do it this time.

Which system do you prefer? I'm sure everyone would like to hear your take. I would!

Also this topic has been discussed many times before and the op may be able to find a gold mine of info using the search function or Google for even more help on the subject matter. Example http://bfy.tw/LhuC

Thanks! Much more informative than a link to some random YouTube video or Instagram page!

Not sure why you didn't use those links in the first place!

Wow! A 1x6 holder for kme or lansky?
It's the universal stone holder capable to work with stones from 0" to 6". It will work on KME, Lansky, DMT Aligner and most of Lansky copies as well: Gatco, Eze-Lap, Smith's, etc.

KME and Lansky on photos.
Regarding stone usage. The universal stone holder cannot surpass geometry limitations of the sharpener. Unless you sharpen a very wide blade, the distance between the pivot and the cutting edge for small sharpeners limit the stone surface usage by 4-5".

Great idea! Can we pre-order?
