Any Bevel Advice?

In my opinion, practice is of more importance than equipment. I believe one would be better off purchasing $100-400 worth of materials to practice with and using what they have rather than purchasing another grinder. Equipment upgrades can come later to improve efficiency.

I'm not sure what your technique is, but I find locking one's elbows to the side and using the body (instead of elbows ) to control the movements helps to a significant degree.

Good advice here for sure !

Oh man did I walk in your shoes. The 1x30 makes it so much harder than it needs to be. For very low budgets I'd get a craftsman 2x42 for $150 and put a glass platen on it, just remember it is another stepping stone and you will eventually replace that one too. While new grinders help a lot, they are not magic. Plan on continuing to ruin steel for a while and you will get better with each one. I ruined 3 out of 5 knives just starting out. Now I might ruin 1 in 15. It gets expensive but its worth it. Spend the rest of your cash on good belts and don't get discouraged.
