Any bought 12" AK?

I just ordered a 12" AK and is wondering if anyone has used or reviewed one. Most of the information I have seen in the Forum is with the 15"

Ron, I think you'll be happy with the 12" AK, but I haven't yet decided what niche it fits into.

Don't get me wrong, I like it, but remember I'm 5'4" with size 8 shoes and proportionate hands. How it fits you will determine what you see it being useful for.

I feel the extra heft of the 12" AK adds some usefulness, but the short length reduces it's abilities at the same time.

If you think of a foot long bowie knife as the equivalent of a SAK ( swiss army knife ) in managing to do just about anything that comes up fairly adequately, then you can think of the 12" AK as equivalent to a multitool like the leatherman, which does the same thing as the SAK, but is built hell for sturdy and you don't have to worry about breaking. You might say the 12" AK is my favorite knife to have around when I didn't bring a real knife. Good tool, just not #1 at any particular thing other than being there.

The 12" Sirupati is a completely different ballgame than the 12" AK. Now THAT ( the baby Sirupati ) is one very scary knife. Forget the Fairbairn-Sykes, the Randall #2 dagger, or the Applegate-Fairbairn. Ghostsix once said that in a zen sense the knife will teach you. If he's right, I'm not so sure I want to know what the baby Sirupati has to teach. It'll do any chores about as well as the bowie will, but that is besides the point. The AK is a tool. The Sirupati is a pure premeditated weapon.

Let me know how the 12" AK feels when you get it. I really want to know what other owners feel about it. Rusty

Ron, you ought to be getting your baby AK any time now, shouldn't you? After reading about Cliff's problems with MadDog I went and measured the baby AK and it's spine was 7/16th's inch at it's thickest, and a 7&3/4" long blade point-to-bolster. Let us know your reaction when it gets there. I'm surprised Jay H hasn't commented yet either. Rusty
 
Rusty, I haven't recieved my baby AK yet. Should be here next week. Can't wait!

This is actually the second knife I have ever owned (other than kitchen knives of course). The first Khukuris I owned was bought from a Gurkha soldier in H.K. I never got to use that knife and it was stolen. Quality of that Khukuris wasn't that well though. It rusted on a few spot not long after I had it.

Well, I am new to the world of knife and is looking forward to recieve my baby AK.

Hey everyone! I think the 12" AK is a real nice knife. You can take it almost anywhere and still have a thick bladed khukuri around for doing what ever you choose. Very meaty blade for it's size. On the other hand, the 12" sirupati is 3/8" thick, and has a fierce and aggressive look to it. Ultimate speed. The engraving on the blade also stands out nicely. Well, there's my two cents Uncle Bill. A penny for each knife. Ha Ha

Rusty, last I heard the knife had not reached Ron. He is not much farther away than you -- and a week for priority mail?

I found that it's always best to check with the post office after waiting a few days for Priority Mail.

Hang in there Ron, Cliff mailed my 12 & 15" Sirupatis back to me in Nevada from testing in Newfoundland on the 8th and they still haven't gotten to me yet, so I know the feeling. Have to go and sharpen my 58" two handed sword now, never know when you might need to use it. Rusty
