Try out http://www.knifeshop.com/shop/ . I've bought knives from them and had them sent to the USA without a problem. Nice guys (or maybe girls I'm not really sure) that will respond to questions and send you update e-mails on shipping.
Good prices, but if you are looking for some US brand name knives their selection is a little limited. But I would check them out and if there is something particular that you had in mind, you could try asking if they could get it for you.

and I cant help noticing that the prices are incredibly high compared with the ones of most of the US sites!
I ordered several times from www.knifecenter.com (US site), the shipping is not cheap (express mail), but I never paid import taxes.
After all, I think it is still the more convenient way!

I've done a fair amount of business with Toolshop, and recommend them without hesitation. Prices on US products are higher, of course, than what you'll find in the USA, but without being ridiculous (like some other European sites I could mention). Toolshop is reliable, plus they can often get items for you that are not featured on their site. I also like the fact that they ship for free.
