Any Folder to Fixed Blade EDC converts out there?

I have been EDC'ing a folder for quite some time now. Usually a Spyderco Sage or Paramilitary in the back right pocket (right front pocket with shorts). It would appear that many of you EDC the Izula, how is that going? Has anyone converted from folder to fixed blade? How was the transition? Do you belt carry? or is the Izula with sheath easy enough to stash in the back pocket?

Thanks for any insight you can shed on the transition.
 
thinking about trading all my folders for fixed. its just easier having a solid peace of steel insted of all those little parts that break and come loose. The iZULA better then any folder in my opinion. My military and manix just gather dust. Just got an RC3 and im wearing it on my belt everyday now. I think its just a phase though, i go back and forth.
 
Yep. I used to always carry a large folder but now I EDC my Izula, most the time neck carry. For me it's way more convenient and comfortable than I thought it would be. I'll also carry a small leatherman(Squirt or Skeletool CX) or SAK most of the time. I don't get any of the strange looks when I break out a little SAK or Leatherman that I used to with a big tactical looking folder, but if I need a quick heavier duty blade, my Izula is right there. :D
 
Works much better for me. Mainly because 1095 is better than any stainless steel folder I've ever had :)

The transition was seamless for me... Having a fixed blade in the right place on your body makes it even quicker to draw and put away than a folder that would sit in or clip to my pocket.

I belt carry mine but I know cricketdave has made leather backpocket sheaths that are very nice. I'm sure someone will post a pic I would but I'm on my iPod!
 
I started EDC the Izula and I like it over a folder. I usually carry it in my pocket in its sheath.
 
as a mechanic, i edc a ZT350, and a crkt m16 with partially serrated tanto. or the ZT and DDR3bl from knifekits that i converted to auto. the zt goes tip up in my right back pocket with my skoal(the zt pocket clip is gentle on leather and vinyl seats as well as cloth). then the m16 goes inside my right front pocket and when i carry the DDR3, it goes tip up on the outside of my right front pocket. in my opinion the the zt is a total tank (used a hammer to get it through a 1" thick pvc pipe last week) the m16 pried apart the steering column on my 85 chevy truck when i lost the key, and the ddr3 hasnt gotten abused to badly yet so i cant brag on it too much but it seems at stout as the other 2
 
I still pocket carry folders like the Buck Vantage, Delica ,etc, but my 3 is always in my pack which I EDC all the time.. In the bush I add my 4 and 5 as well.:)
 
I EDC a ZT0200 for around town but recently changed that out for a Scrap Yard Mud Puppy in CEG leather pants.

For work I EDC a RAT1 folder but will change that out for an RC3 when it arrives. The RC3 will probably take over my Mud Puppy for the first little while too.

I have considered carrying only the Izula if i can figure out a way to carry it daily I like. Right now I carry an Emerson i really like
 
ESEE-3 is my regular carry blade. I also carry folders when the situation permits. Or should I say when the situation doesn't permit the 3.
 
I get a lot of compliments on my Pink Izula with bright blue paracord wrap and orange fold-over Hoopster kydex. :cool:
 
i carried folders exclusively for a long time. then i got my izula :eek:

now i carry both, problem solved :D
 
I was edc's my 4 and izula, but now it's the 3 and the izula, I've always edc'ed my izula since I had it, before that it was a benchmade 555, or kershaw tyrade.....
 
i've been carrying a Leatherman Wave for the last 10 years.

i daresay it will be joined by the WM1/3G* i just ordered as an edc.


*WM1/3G is the Fallkniven equivalent of the Izula
 
dunno. i'm between jobs due to/while i reciver from medical problems. soooo, once i'm back to work and have some cash flow an Izula, scales and probably some kydex for it will be high on the list.

'till then my EDC is my ZT 0200 :cool:
 
I went from folder (Leatherman skeletool cx), to fixed (HEST), back to folder (SAK Champion Plus).

Unfortunately I live in a city where carrying a knife with a locking mechanism, or any threatening looking knife, is severely frowned upon.

I hope one day to be able to go back to fixed carry. I just love the HEST...perfect size for every day use!
 
Wow thanks for all the comments! I'm not sure if I can kick the folder habit, especally with the Paramilitary coming out soon. I guess I'll have to get a Izula and see if its for me.

For those who stuff the Izula in their pockets is it comfortable?

I used to just stuff it in my pocket, and it worked fine. Then I saw one of crickets back pocket sheaths on this forum, and it just clicked. It is a quality, affordable, permanent option to pocket carry that is working well for me. I have no problem drawing, and then returning the knife to the sheath, with the sheath in the pocket. It's just what I was looking for. :thumbup: :D
