J your reading my mind bro! Scary in there isn't it:D

I have been wanting to try a hammock, but unwilling to caugh up over $100 for one. This one looks pretty good though.

Lts see what everyone else says.

I have been a hammock camper for about 2 years now.I have a Clark Jungle hammock North American and a Mosquito free hammock bliss. The Clark is my main hammock and the other is my backyard/light travel hammock.

:o great minds think alike I guess!!!

It looks like a heluva good price, and if you make some sort fly for it, the shape looks like it would deflect water good.....

if your smaller you can get a hennessy scout model for 79.85 only if you are like 5.10 or less

just saying thats all

i personnaly use a byer of maine UL and a tarp getting ready to upgrade to one like the one from bens

I can't comment on that model in particular (I've been using an ENO), but I love backpacking with a hammock. It takes up much less space than my tent, it weighs less, and I avoid dealing with the rocky uneven ground that abounds where I enjoy camping most.

I do just about all of my camping in forests, so there are plenty of trees for anchor points (keep that in mind). Also, it is far less of a refuge if you find yourself out in 2+ days of straight rain. I find that the positives outweigh the negatives for me with hammocks, though.

I've been a hammock camper for years, and I use mine year round.

Hammock Forums
is a great place to get info, including plans to build your own. A simple whipped-end hammock suitable for camping can be made by anyone.

Those clarks get a lil pricey though, what if it isn't for me? Do you know of anything that would be similar but less money?

JW- yeah it should be fine w/ a fly

look at this http://cgi.ebay.com/OD-Jungle-Hammo...ryZ16040QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Cool link man, thanks! Is it comfortable to sleep in one? I dont have a bad back or anything, just wondering.....

Thats freakin sweet! Its worth the price to just buy it to test one!

Looks pretty well made.

Thats what I was thinking. I'm gonna check it out, unless some one talks me out of by the time the auction ends;)

Yes, hammocks can be incredibly comfortable. The best rest I've ever gotten outdoors has been in my hammock(s).

The biggest thing is learning to set whichever model you choose up properly, including enough insulation for keeping warm. It takes a little consideration, but it's well worth the time.

For around $100 you can get a Speer Hammock with the velcro attached mosquito netting. It's what I've been using for the past year.

Photo below is on the Long Trail / Appalachian Trail on top of Glastenbury Mountain two weeks ago. Best sleep I've had in a long time.

I made my own following directions from here. I haven't slept in it yet, but it was pretty easy and cheap. It is a sperry style hammock with a ridgeline. The most expensive part for me was the fabric ($30).

Here is more info on the theory behind making one.

Sounds cool to make your own. I might have to try that if I end up liking one.

Thanks for the link!

Angrysparrow- those tarps are nice, pricey though....

I've been thinking about getting a hammock for quite some time now.

The only issue I think I may come across is that I'm not a back sleeper. I either sleep on my stomach or on my side.

Anyone elese come across this problem and have overcome it?
