Any knives of which you can't own just one?

Hi guys,

I thought about limiting my question to production knives as that seems to be the most likely category users might own multiples of, but it would also be really interesting if anyone decided to pick up a few limited/higher priced runs (I guess a sprint run is still production, anyway).

When I first got into the hobby I never even considering owning more than one copy of a knife model. But over the years I've run into a few, mostly budget and nothing fancy at all, that I couldn't resist picking up a few of just in case they ever discontinued. The F&F and ergonomics just being surprisingly great for the price--performance as well of course.

I know some users don't have any desire to own multiples but I'm wondering who else might and what knife prompted the choice.

For me, two that I like to have a couple of are the Utilitac II by Ontario, and the good ol' Mora Companion model.

Like I said, nothing fancy, and easily acquired by anyone. Almost no reason to bother with backing up the Mora as they are so inexpensive and ubiquitous, but I couldn't help it.

What are your favorite knives in terms of wanting a "back-up" or two?

For me it has to be CRK, The zaan, the 21 inlay, 25 cf and a mnandi, they can be so different but at the same time so alike

I own more multiple SAKs than anything else because I keep spares for the one(s) I normally carry and potentially damage or loose. I don't loose knives often, only a couple in many years. Stolen? Two or three.... At job sites, I have left knives sit on a window sill, dumpsters, porch, deck railings and so forth that might be a bit far to return and try to retrieve. It happens, but again not often.

I have a zt560 and zt560bw. Then I bought a zt560 to be a safe queen. But I discovered I'm not a safe queen kind of guy but I couldn't use it since I have the first one so I sold it. Then the other day, I saw a 560 for sale here and I bought it to have a second one again. I guess I like the 560. Weird though as I prefer the 452cf to carry and a BM barrage more often than the 560s.

I do have several Leatherman waves with the bit options and extender. But that's just so I can have one handy just about where I am.

Opinels.
Moras.
Mercators.
RR Improved Muskrat
Case Medium Stockman.
SAKs
RR Dog Bone Jack
Sodbusters
Leeks
Marttiinis
CS Kudus
BM Mini Barrage.
CS Finn Bear
Leatherman Micra. I have 4 or 5, and never go anywhere without one.

It's a good thing I had the back-up on the Mini Barrage, because that's the one my junkie stepson stole to buy drugs. Actually, he took the backup, a fresh new one, leaving me with my well-used example with the unfortunate black blade.

The Leek is doubled because my son gave me the multicolored disco model for my birthday a couple years back.

The Improved Muskrat I thought was lost. I replaced it immediately as one of my favorite carries. Naturally, my wife found the missing one before the substitute had even arrived. I also gave one to my daughter for Christmas.

On a couple of occasions, I have bought Opinels by the box for Christmas gifts.

The Dog Bone Jacks are just too cool. I still want one with the acorn shield.

Most of the others will be stashed on different cycles of either the moto- or bi- persuasion.

SAKs and Salt Knives, specially the Pacific Salt.

Both are such bang for your buck and useful I can't ever say no to a newer one

I haven't had any lost or stolen myself (apart from one hiccup where they were, thankfully, returned) but I guess losing one is probably one of the primary ways to, well, be without it.

You find that you use your SAK quite a bit at your job daily? That's pretty cool.

I got doubles of spyderco catcherman because I used one for 10 plus years till it went from fully serrated to fully plain lol I can email proof lol

I got backup on benchmade mini onslaught the blade is a slicing Lil beast
But it's a Lil heavy in the handle (I don't like weight without reasons)

Lawley I've been on a strider kick so I got 2 smf's and will get one more (need to give a DGG a try) and there are just too many variations in steel and Finnish. Sometimes I think I should sell the 2 and buy a preformance but I have already started to beat on the user smf I have :)

The SnG is a perfect edc size. But I find I actually like the oversized smf a lot
(They are not the best. Cheese knife lol)
But I would also like to try another SnG in DGG. The cc shape is awsome but she's a little slick :) a bead blast on the g 10 side would make it perfect

I sold, and very much miss, my BM Barrage. Good knife for the price (and I think I bought it before MAP) and the assisted action on it was just... different from every other assisted I've ever tried. The "solidness" of it, if you will. Don't know how to explain it.

I always wanted a SALT but could never justify needing the steel for its intended use of awesome saltwater corrosion resistance so I never picked one up...

I see you have zip tie modified yours there, just curious why there are two? I am unfamiliar with this method except knowing it is a cheap and easy way to wave a knife, are two necessary to the process?
