I don't know why the manufacturers don't use it. It is the easiest lock to manipulate and it got back the detent ball which results that satisfying rapid opening action. I can't imagine better lock at the moment. Maybe it's difficult to implement....but it has to be one of the rarest types of lock.
Easier than just a button lock?I don't know why the manufacturers don't use it. It is the easiest lock to manipulate and it got back the detent ball which results that satisfying rapid opening action. I can't imagine better lock at the moment. Maybe it's difficult to implement.
Good call on the Benchmade 480 Shoki. The Nak-Lock is a button actuated top liner lock. 1.7 ounces and I think all versions came in S30V.I have an older benchmade Shoki as my only button lock. No clip however and pretty small. Possible trying to emulate WH with that model now that I think about it but cheaper. I am pretty sure it was 200 or under.
It"s the same. Smock added another detend which wasn't needed and people took that one out.I have a Vosteed Raccoon with the top liner lock. No Smock so I don't know how that one works. I've seen a modified PM2 with added button to move the compression lock liner and the Vosteed top liner lock is not the same. They both use the liner but Spyderco has it engage a cut out part of the blade end and Vosteed has the tip of the liner act as a wedge between the blade and a bar.
To me at least they are as similar as a regular back lock and a triad lock. Just so no one thinks Vosteed is copying the compression like how so many are copying the axis lock now. I'm not aware yet of a true compression lock copy.
I had the Altus and the WE Qubit as well. The Qubit had a lock stick and was painful to open it. WE made the surface of the button and the scales blasted so it didn't move well.Easier than just a button lock?
Which would suddenly give more options.
We. If you want super steels.
The only thing I can think of is a strength issue.
I've never seen Nak-lock. Vosteed calls Top liner lock because I'm not sure they can use 'compression' lock.Good call on the Benchmade 480 Shoki. The Nak-Lock is a button actuated top liner lock. 1.7 ounces and I think all versions came in S30V.
No clip but I have a work-around for that…

My bad. What I put up was my 483 Shori, not a 480 Shoki. Both Nakamura designs but somewhat different models.Hackenslash
Mine is different - 480-1 in carbon fiber M390. Can get a pic tomorrow but just googled it as a refresher ( thought it was M39O but was not positive) Different blade and overall profile as well. I guess they made two models?
Lots of similarities though including the metal lanyard ring that you pictured.
I have the Civivi Qubit and it's a great knife. No lock stick at all. Interesting to see the WE version doesn't have the bottle opener blade.nd the WE Qubit as well. The Qubit had a lock stick and was painful to open it. WE made the surface of the button and the scales blasted so it didn't move well.
