Any love for the buck 110??

Hell Yes - love mine and it is my usual carry on most of my hunting trips. A great all around knife and big enough to do most jobs. Can't remember how many pigs I've skinned with mine. To me the perfect size and shape for a folder to carry in the field.

It was a part of me in the 70's. Everyone I knew had a 110 on their belt.A northeast thin maybe.

The first gift I ever purchased for my Dad with my own hard earned money was a Buck 110 back in 1976. He carried it for three years until he had a chance to give it to his brother in Cuba. He visited his family in 1979 for the first time since Castro took over in 1958. Stowed away in his suitcase was his prized Buck 110 lockback. He gave the knife to one of his two surviving brothers on that trip in 1979. We called that brother in 1999 to tell him of my Father's passing. He told me he still had my Dad's old Buck and it still worked just fine. Seems that 50's cars and old Buck knives last a long time in Cuba(out of necessity).

Funny thing is my father never carried another knife after he gave away his Buck 110.

I hope to visit my family in Cuba once the Castros are dead and gone. Maybe I'll finally get to see my father's birthplace......... and the Buck 110 I purchased back in 1976.

The 110 is definetely a classic... I gotta go with Peter though, I prefer the 112.

Babba... Nice pics. Looks to be an early Rem 700. The checkering on the older ones is very classy. I wish they still made them like that. Although they are fairly hard to find, some of the early ones came with stainless barrels that were blued.

You nailed it on the 700! It's a 7mm Mag and an early one. It has the stainless barrel as well but I had Larry Kelly trim the barrel back to 21.5" and put his then new "Magna-Black" finish on it then Port it around 19 years or so ago...Shit I'm gettin OLD!!! I worked the the stock over at the same time with a Cherry Stain and oil finish... It's cool that there are people still out there that appreciate these great tools. Oh yeah, and I still hunt with it today!!!~baba~

Definitely love mine. It's a great cutter, and makes an excellent skinning/butchering knife when I'm hunting. I use it a lot when I'm working, too, since you can beat the crap out of 'em and they hold up great.
.......although I can never decide which one's my favorite, the 110 or the 112.

First real knife I ever owned! I snapped off the blade doing some prying! First and only knife I ever snapped a blade on. I was a teenager at the time, so please forgive me. I will be adding one to my collection.

I agree that the 112 does not get enough love. Its basically a 3/4 sized version of the 110 thats just as hefty, but small enough ride loose in your pocket.

Here's a beater 110:

Not a very good picture but this is the one I've got. I prefer the 112.

:o I don't have one... never have had one... They are kinda common here, or used to be. I just never went to lockbacks, when I went from fixed to folders, I went straight to slips.. Then later found that a lockback was un handy for me; can't close it one handed..

But since i have had my cheetah, and some smaller lockbacks around, I have been drawn to trying a 110..

A close buddy had several that he carried, I will say a damned solid knife! Had one that was great, I will even say slightly better built than the bucks; A Stanley, made by Camillus.

He left his behind when he went into boot camp, so I'm planning to get him a nice vintage one and fancy it up with some new scales as a home coming present when he gets out next summer..

So I'll get a chance to handle one for a while.. Lately the shape has been more appealing to me that it used to be, so I get the feeling I'll be getting me one too.

I love 110s!
I have three 110s, one regular 110, one 110fg and an cheap used ebay beater 110 with a reprofiled blade.
Look at the 111 as well.

The 111 is like the 110, same size and dimensions but with nickled and slightly different shaped bolsters.
I still need to get a 112FG some time.

The one-armed bandits are useful for the 110/112 etc.

I was looking at the Buck Mayo's with the Spyderco-ish hole in the blade and though to myself "wouldn't it be neat if there were 110/111/112's with blades like that".
personally I do prefer a spyderco type hole opener to a button opener.

And if i could add one thing to the 110/111/112 series it would be a lanyard hole of some kind.
I rarely use a lanyard but it nice to have that option on a knife.

Not to drift off topic but that's the exact same rifle my Grandad had.
He mounted a fixed 4 power Leupold on it. Used it to kill his last deer, a beautiful 30 inch Mule Deer (which is hanging safely on my wall :D)

That rifle will serve you and the next couple generations well.... I'll take an older gun anyday over the new stuff. Matter of fact there is an early 700 with the stainless barrel in 270 at a local pawn shop I've been eyeing

I'll love the buck 110 or 112 when they come out in carbon steel, 1095. Until then they are just crap.

pickupman, you may want to choose your terms with a little more thought around here as "trolling" will not be tolerated. Consider this a friendly reminder (this time).

Folks, please do not rise to the bait as we don't need to start any pissing contests in this forum.

I for one find the BG42 blade on the 110 I own to be made from an excellent steel.

A few years ago at a gunshow, one of the sellers called me over to her table. She pulled out a few auto knives for $10. I told her I wasn't interested. Then she pulled out a modifed 110. It was fantastic. Push the button and the knife almost flew out of your hand from the spring tension and weight of the knife. I didn't have $180 at that moment, and she was very "aware" of the people around the table! In PA, you can legally collect auto's, but you cannot carry them. Not sure how I'd get the knife home under those conditions, but I was very willing to try:D

Okay, what's in that maglight?
Any love for the Buck lite?

Hear hear! I think the "Edge 2000" really brought the best out of 420HC, and I just love it, but the BG 42's are the cream of the crop. Easy to sharpen, hold an edge for a good long time, some of the best all time deals in all of knifedom!

Hope ya don't take this as responding to the trolling... Its a curiousity I have had anyway..

I have wondered why they never were done in carbon... In fact, I asways thought the early ones were, until I started looking at buying one last year.. Came as a surprise that, that far back, they were always SS.. When they were introduced, its not like the industry had phased carbon out as much as it has now... Were they pushing the newness or innovation of SS along with the new design?

You might want to ask that in the Buck forum and get a reply from the source. Stainless wasn't at all new when the knife came out.
