Any love for the buck 110??

Hope ya don't take this as responding to the trolling... Its a curiousity I have had anyway..

I have wondered why they never were done in carbon... In fact, I asways thought the early ones were, until I started looking at buying one last year.. Came as a surprise that, that far back, they were always SS.. When they were introduced, its not like the industry had phased carbon out as much as it has now... Were they pushing the newness or innovation of SS along with the new design?

There was just a very long thread in "Review" that you might want to read about Buck and their steel

I got a Buck 110 when I was 13. I loved that knife and used it for years. Unfortunately it was taken by a douchebag that I thought was a friend. I never replaced it because it was irreplacable.

Not a knife I carry a lot, but a LOT of knife for under $30! I kinda like the 112 better too, be about the perfect lockback for me if it were flat ground and a drop point!

You might want to ask that in the Buck forum and get a reply from the source. Stainless wasn't at all new when the knife came out.

:) Thanks to neemans' link and some other links, I am digging over there right now...

Not new, no... but the consensus I always get is that it wasn't verry popular yet, compared to known carbon steels in that time...

Meh, OK. Thats enough thread drift from me; I'll go ask in the buck area.. :)

I have a 110, I bought new a few months ago. I have never carried it but I got it because of all the hype. I like the knife, but it does have a little blade side to side wiggle in it. Just a little. That may be normal, but blade play irritates the crap out of me. I know im picky. I still love that knife though. My older brother has carried one all of his life and he wont own any other knife except that one. That is a great knife, i just wish mine didnt come with the side to side wiggle. Its a safe queen now.

I taking a 110 to work on my belt today just for grins!!!:D I have a nice low pro sheath that makes a 110 a joy to belt around all day!!!!

The Auto conversion is store-bought and has been a real dandy! A member did the file work for me... As for the Stockman it's a Bucl 303LE.

Nice. A Buck stockman in bone. Can you still get them?Made in USA I see.
What about the Buck 55? The pocket version. 110/2.They look like competition to the Coppperlock.

The 303LE "I was told" was made in the early 90's. I have only seen this one and I bought it! It gets used alot! I have a standard 303 that somehow has a shield on both sides. Very cool and also gets carried alot! They will both get some shelf time now that I just got a Cold Steel Stockman w/Carbon V. Nice BIG Sucka! Cuts like Crazy!!!!

I love how they look and feel.

However, after seeing one taken apart I was blown away at how little metal provides for lockup. In fact, it scared me. Since then I only use lock-backs that I know lockup real darn good. Spyderco does the lock-back better than just about anyone these days.

while it's true that most lock backs only have a little bit of metal for the lock..I feel that in normal cutting chores it would be extremely difficult to break or compromise that piece. Personally I feel that a lock on a folder is there to function like a safety on a fire arm..it shouldn't be relied on..there for I treat my locking knife the same as I would treat a slippy. because you can't be to safe...That being said there is a buddy of mine over on the W&SS board that hammered on the back of his 110 repeatedly with a stout stick to split a pile of fire wood for kindling..I wouldn't condone this but it certainly speaks to the integrity of the lockup.

They had a special edge, hollow ground in the belly but got thicker toward the edge, then sharp again. I forget what they referred to it.
