I use a Merkur Vision DE and no disposable comes close, not even the Fusion when it comes to results. Anybody use DE Merkurs out there?

:D

I use a Merkur HD daily, way better (and more fun) than using the cartridge razors. I'm probably going to get the new Merkur 38C long-handled Hefty now that it's out.

Got a Merkur in a trade a while ago, don't know what model it is. It's a great shaver. I'm almost tempted to put the straights away and use it exclusively.

I use a merkur HD most of the time, sometimes I like to switch it up and use one of my Fatboys or an old Gillette NEW instead.

Since this thread started I picked up a Merkur 38C (aka the barberpole or the sledgehammer), which has now become my daily shaver. It shaves just as good as it looks.

Switched to DE a couple months ago..and no turning back. I use a Merkur Vision.

I recently went from a fusion and canned foam to a merkur DE classic and badger brush w/ taylors cream, best shave in my life.

I really like Taylor's. I have St. James, Shaving Shop, Mr. Taylor's and Lavender. The stuff works great for me even though the old timers say the new formulation is not nearly as good as the older version.

Doesn't concern me at all... I've found that in regards to just about anything, the old timers say that whether it's true or not.

I got the rose, I think its one of their more popular scents. I wouldnt mind trying the almond or avocado. On the website it says it has sandalwood and oak and stuff but theres just a list of weird things on the ingredients label, nothing natural. Maybe the old timers are right.
Have you used Trumper's? I heard its real good.

Haven't tried the Trumpers yet, but I've got a tube of Speick and samples of Floris, Harris and Castle Forbes. They're all good but not worth paying more than Taylor's IMHO (except the Speick which is cheaper).

As to the ingredients, the Taylor's creams have the same ingredients as before except the scent ingredients, which they claim they had to change to meet EU standards. In the Taylor's creams they changed from imitation lavender to real lavender oil in the new formulation, and the avocado still has real avocado oil. The subject of changed formulations has been discussed ad infinitum on shavemyface.com and badgerandblade.com, if you are interested in more info.

Merkur HD and Slant here. Oh so smooth when loaded with a Feathers Hi Stainless DE blade.

Well I'm only 22, and while I don't have a Merkur, I do have an old Gillette DE I found at a garage sale. I'm using the "bottom of the barrel" everything. Old razor, some brand of generic blades, williams mug soap and a boar brush.

Nearly a year now....these new things make me laugh when I see commercials.

And I DREAD the few occasions when I have to use EDGE and the old Mach III

Tim, if you drop back in here sometime...how long have you shaved with just the feather blades? (I've heard that some have to actually take a break from them every now and then.)

Those old Gillettes are still good razors. I recently got a '59 Gillette tech that I like a lot. If you hang out on forums like ShaveMyFace.com or BadgerAndBlade.com you can sometimes find some good equipment being sold for good prices on their buy/sell/trade forums. You owe it to yourself to try a good badger brush.

I've been whacking off a really heavy beard daily for 57 years. I just can't get too excited about a hundred year old technology I quit using 35 or 40 years ago. Merkur? Yikes, maybe on peach fuzz, IMHO, of course.

Seriously, Gillette, double bladed pivot head throw aways do it for me. No need for a transfusion while shaving in years. The best ever shave cream for me is Edge's Active Care Deep Cleansing Shave Cream (for Oily skin) at WallMart. They make a flavor for other skin types too. The thinner layer you use the better the shave.

Like the man said, "Different strokes for different folks".

Tonyboy, I'd agree with you if you don't have time (or the want) for a proper "set-up". The old stuff isn't very forgiving. But since I only shave my neck (or shape my beard) I can get away with shaving every 2-3 days...so I can take my time when I do shave...and there's no comparison in the quality...bumps and burns are a thing of the past now...and the whole ordeal that most don't want to mess with is quite relaxing.
