Any news on new ZTs for 2010

Hi Aknife,

Sorry to say It's not a deep carry. It does ride slightly lower then a standard ZT clip but only fractionally. The shape was out of necessity and was the only way I could come up with a quad carry for the price point.

Thanks for the update. It'll be interesting to see how the knife carries with that clip.

AKNIFE,
We have recently modified the design to accept a deep carry clip. It will carry deep on the tip down mount however due to the skull crusher liners it will not carry as deep on tip up.

Nice, can't wait to see these release.

Man. I really feel like I am on the other side of the fence here. I have little company over here, but I must share my opinion. I have 2 ZT's that I show off proudly. I have a 300 and a 350 that are sweet knives. I really wanted a 200 as well. The whole first run of ZT's was great. True tank of knives.
In all of the clips that I have watched, and pictures seen elsewhere of the current offerings of ZT for 2010, including the pic in this thread, I am VERY disappointed. I find them to be quite unattractive. They do not look to be anywhere near as comfy as the '09 run of knives. The butt end of the handle of the knife in this thread is awful looking. The lines are all over the place with very little flow to the design. The blade does not seem to match the handle. Looks a little Smith and Wessony to me. Sorry Thomas.
I have a Kershaw Blur that I LOVE and a Leek. My wife carries a Scallion everyday, so we are far from Kershaw haters, but even the new line of Kershaws that I have seen has been lack luster.
I am sad to say that it looks like 2010 will see no new ZT's or Kershaws for the collection. Maybe there will be something that surfaces to surprise me later in the year, and I will gladly eat my words.
Just my opinion guys, so no need to massacre me with your words.

Certainly you can have your opinion with our new offerings Bolt, no problem. You've made them quite clear in a multitude of threads. Personally speaking (and I like to fancy myself as having a good eye), the following designs on just a few of our new products are pleasing to my eye:

Speedform – Blade’s 2009 American Made Knife of the Year
Volt & Volt II – RJ Martin Design
Tanto Zing – RJ
Chill – RJ
Nerve – RJ
Rogue – RJ
TG1 – Tim Galyean Design
Rake – Tim
Clash – Ken Onion Design
Random Task II – Ken
Talon II
Breakout
Scamp
0750
0780
Plus an enormous percentage of the multitude of the LE's.

Designs as you know, are very subjective, and can have incredible variance from person to person. No manufacturer will hit a home run with every new knife. Heck if you just get on base you're happy most times. What one see's as ugly, another envisions as a must have. I'm unsure if a quality manufacturer can fall down too hard with regards to design as you described in earlier threads, especially when one incorporates the talents of proven knife makers/designers. Now I really question doomsday posts.

Again, I think it's more than fine not to have an attraction to specific knives. I think to be somewhat redundant like you have recently, and passionately bash brands/designers (in this case us) over what you see in new designs is a tad off to me. Obviously, build quality, materials, standing behind the product, etc. are not in question here. Perhaps your “current love” has fogged your Kai perspective. I’ll add that I understand that all we have is looks to make judgments on in a lot of cases, but let’s not try to quantify comfort and quality with our eyes as well.

I guess I should finish with "this is all just my opinion", which of course clears me from being anything other than a guy telling you how I’m feeling at this particular moment.

Well said Thomas W. I, for one, will be buying a few of these new ZT knives and let their fit/function determine my opinion. I have not been let down by Kershaw/ZT, and doubt they would have produced "crap" knives all of the sudden. Plus, I'm a knife nut, and buying/using/trading steel is what I'm into. If your not into the whole knife addiction thing, then one knife will be the only one you'll ever need. And you should be able to resist the newest/latest/greatest knives being produced. I will not resist. Resisting is no fun.

I love the look and price point of a lot of ZT knives but being a lefty, the frame locks and liner locks bum me out.

I would love to see ZT introduce some lockbacks similar to the rest of their line and I would kill for a lefty variant of the 301 or 302! Any chance of us seeing this in the future, Thomas?

You should really have a look at the ZT0500 before it's gone. It feels like it was designed for us lefties.

I agree. '09 was a better year for ZT IMO. I like the more organic recurve 'a 'la ken onion. I also think the recent knives are a tad small for my liking,

Thank you for your response Thomas. I apologize if I struck a nerve. I do feel that as a collector and user of knives, I have found a company that meets me where I am. Because my funds are limited, and I can not purchase every knife I see, I choose knives that hit me on all levels. Granted my tastes may differ from others, and that is why there are so many knives and companies to choose from. I am not bashing Kershaw/ZT, as I have stated, I own and love the knives that I have, but I am merely disappointed in the current selection. Everything seems very bland to me. Example would be the Random Task. The old one was a real looker, and the newer one is very bland. Everything just seems to be black g-10 with a common blade finish. I am trying to avoid the whole Ken Onion thing, because there are many other knife makers that have great designs. I would say that I am a fan of Ken's designs, and maybe that is where my lack of interest in the current line-up is coming from. I am merely a small fish in a large pond of knife lovers, and I know that many will find the current line-up exciting. I hope you sell a ton of knives, and I hope that I will see a line-up in the future that interests me. Again, I have no problem buying another Kershaw or ZT, it just may not be from this years offerings.
I have read many a post that people have offered their feelings on a certain knife or company, and I was merely offering my opinion. I feel that you guys have missed the mark this year. I feel like there was a large hole in the Kershaw Design Team when Ken left, and could possibly be the reason behind the resurrection of so many older designs with new twists. The current line-up is not my cup of tea. I hope that changes.

I really dig the 0500 but I'm a little on the fence with the the locking mechanism. You don't have any problems closing it one handed with your left hand?

I've seen left-handers close it easier because they can use their fingers, us rightys have to use our thumbs. :)

I like the way it looks personally. Need to handle one & see how it feels before I'd think of buying one.

I honestly think that the MUDD and the RAM are easier to operate with the left hand. You can either retract the lock switch with the index finger and flip it closed, or use the middle finger on the lock with the index on the blade spine to guide the blade in.

Strangely, the locking mechanism on the ZT 0650st, while being similar, seems to be placed to better use the right thumb. It's still good for lefties, just not as good.

Maybe it's been asked...heck, I think I might have asked it somewhere on here...

...are the ZT030x series knives still going to be produced??

The new stuff is all fine and dandy...but I hope that beefy, curvy ZT series is still gonna be made.
