Any of you gamers P.O.'ed with Starcraft 2?

I just got in my copy of Starcraft 2 and loaded it up this weekend. When I pre-ordered the game a year ago I didn't know I'd need a new computer to play it and that I'd be at the mercey of battle.net to do anything with it. I might as well not even own the game because you can't play without a connection. To make it worse, they took the LAN ability completely out of the game, which for me and my friends/ family is how we play 99% of the time. What the heck is going on? I'm just really disappointed and was curious if anyone else felt the same.

seeing as how the sys req's outclass my computer by an order of magnitude. I haven't had a chance to play it.

but never mind that.

so you have to have an internet connection to play? even SP? If so, this is bogus. my main work & play comp is not connected to the internet. I ain't planning on hooking it up any time soon.

I know why blizzard would want to do this, but it still sucks. the CD key worked well enough for copy protection.

I know the graphics are greatly improved and there are a few new things but all the reviews I read said for the most part its the same game just updated with graphics. I had no idea about the LAN that is the only way I like to play. Weak Blizzard

I bought a few games for my kid and then realized
that not only did it require internet connection to play
but also a monthy subscription fee!
That really sucked
couldnt even play the game alone.

thanks for the warning!

i am waiting for Diablo III to turn up.

never been a huge fan of RTS games.

i just hope that "Battle.Net 2.0" or whatever is hack-proof or that Blizzard puts in some effort to keep it hack free.

currently, battle.net is a hack'tard paradise.

My Dell XPS 710, circa 2007 with no upgrades, runs SC2 just fine (albeit I don't have all the flashy stuff turned all the way up). I'm having a pretty good time with it. Fun and feels just like the original Star Craft.

I am looking forward to Diablo 3 though. If it's better than Diablo 2 I'll be happy.

EDIT TO ADD: It is beyond stupid that you can't play the single player game without an internet connection. The single player game is mostly why I bought SC2, since the first Star Craft had such an amazing single player game with a great story. Lacking LAN sucks too, but I never played over a LAN before and never really had a reason or desire to, so it doesn't really matter to much to me.

You can thank Activision for that, they're using it for a cash cow, just like call of duty.

Yea, it sucks. I have MW2, and I generally enjoy it, but you can tell that some of the crap that was implemented was basically forced by Activision to make it appeal to the most people as possible. Its a great game when you get a large group of like minded players playing and communicating. But for general drop in games, it sucks

if D3 isn't at least as good as D2, Blizzard will be shooting their own leg off.

i don't expect the beta test to start before the end of next year on that one.

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned they really screwed up with some of the decisions they've made regarding this title. I've sent an email to their tech support requesting that they terminate the battle.net account I had to create to play it and asked that they clear the activation key so that I can give it to a friend of mine that thinks he wants to try it. It just sucks because I wouldn't call myself a huge starcraft fan, but my immediate family and friends do get together and LAN party about once every 4 to 6 months and it is a staple game. We were all looking forward to new units and mechanics and this experience has been a real turn off. On the plus side, I've managed to save them all the $60 they would have spent on it and it appears this thread is helping some of you too so mission accomplished.

I've been a long time FPS PC gamer, well long time Counter-Strike player ... until MW2 came out. Infinity Ward really screwed up making a perfect (multiplayer) fps game imo. No dedicated servers?! Constant host problems! Whatever though, I'm not gonna complain and cry too much as I still played the game constantly until hitting 5th prestige. I don't care too much for it now ... and have been hooked on Super Street Fighter. If anyone is on Steam, PM me your steamID. (=

Can't speak too much on SC2 as I've only played the first one on N64 with friends .. didn't get into too much as I'm not a big fan of RTS. I prefer the more quick games.

You should try HON (heroes of newerth) all my co-workers seem to love that game! I believe it's free for the next week.

You know that Infinity Ward made a great game, it was Activision and Bobby Kotick that messed up with all those things...and if you've only played Starcraft on N64 then you've never played Starcraft.

I wasn't impressed with Diablo 2. Some good ideas, but just poor execution of a lot of it. I still play the first Diablo from time to time. Still a lot of fun.

Totally agree. I didn't know Activision was the culprit. Everyone pointed their fingers @ IF. IF this and IF that during gameplay. Also, I've played SC on the PC -- just never got into it. Just mentioned N64 because my buddies and I would waste hours building, then calling time to attack to see the outcome.

I didn't know they made Starcraft for N64. I'm a Playstation devotee myself. I can't imagine Starcraft on a console. That is almost as bad as when Wizards of the Coast tried to make a Playstation version of Magic: The Gathering. I've been playing MTG since I was a freshman in high school shortly after it first came out. Now that's a game that is entertaining and challenging.
