Any of you guys longboard?

i don't know if you would consider it longboarding, but i have the Carve board with inflatable wheels that i get down on from time to time. i have switched to park riding in the bowl recently, and have kind of forgot about hitting up some steep hills ...but after reading this thread, i would love to get back on that thing.

i also have a 7 foot longboard with indie trucks, and simms wheels that i made myself, with carpet epoxied to the top.

pics to come

here are a couple pics of my 7 foot 4 inch longboard that i built when i was 15.

some a-hole spray painted the bottom of it when i had a party back in the day.

the carpet has gotten funky over the years, and the barings suck. but i have used this
board many MANY times. it rides alot better then most would think. i didn't screw the trucks into the board
directly, i drilled holes like a normal skateboard. you can walk up to the nose without the back end coming up,
but once you hang ten, if your not back on your heels it will come up on you.

at first my friend and i were each going to make one, but when we drilled the holes for the trucks,
the board flexed too much, so we ended up screwing both of them together. it ended up being
super rigid, and has very little flex. you can jump up and down in the middle and it won't hit the ground.

i've had 5 people on this "bob sledding" down a hill. much fun.

i won't have any pics of my carve board untill i can dig it out of the shed.

That thing is crazy. I bet turning must be fun on it :)

it turns slow and feels alot like an actual longboard (surfboard)
its quite fun on mellow hills, but when its on a steep hill, you have to keep carving hard
or you get mad speed wobbles.

looks like you got your wheels dirty already. are you stoked on your new set up?

Yeah Im stoked!

Here's my 3 longboards. I have 2 cruisers as well but I hardly ever ride them.

My first board was the Sector 9. I rode that for a few months and learned most of the basic moves on it. I don't like pintails anymore so I mainly use that one for getting my friends into riding.

Next I got my Nelson Tempest which is an amazing board. Its so unbelievably versatile. Its awesome for freestyle. I can ollie on it, hit switches super easy and its also pretty decent for just cruising around. I don't have any killer hills where I live but the Tempest has been an awesome downhill board for me. Its really stable and the concave just locks your feet it.
I need to change my Bushings though. I have a 92a roadside and 85a barrel board side and the turning is just too stiff. No wobbles though. I use 86a Orangatang durians. They're a bit icey at times but they break into slides really well.

I just got my newest board last week. Never summer Drop through Heist with the power flex. I love this thing. Its a perfect cruising board and is my go to for longer distance stuff. Its great to push but is also pumpable. My only gripe is that its really easy for your feet to hit the wheels so you have to watch out for that and always be aware of where your feet are. I have paris 180's with 85a double cone bushings for hard carving and 86a IN Heats. They are hard to break into slides with and chatter alot but they coast alot longer than any wheel ive ever used.

Its awesome. You can hit just about any slide on it with relative ease compared to most boards. The Nelson concave really is the best out there. Especially when you are hitting a high speed slide. I do Coleman shutdown slides when going 25+ all te time and still haven't lost my footing.

The only think you have to watch out for is when doing standup slides the gas pedals/ edges of the board give you a ton of leverage and sometimes I over apply my weight and end up eating it.

I think once you get really good at sliding it's a feature you want but for someone like me who still struggles with standup 180 slides sometimes the gas pedals give you too much power.

Nice to see a bunch of older dudes doing this. It's inspired me to borrow my 8-year daughter's Robert August tomorrow. She might have to get a land paddle too.

Just got into the hobby a few months ago and really enjoy it. Just curious if anyone on here is into cruising! Its really put a hurting on my wallet though. Ive started selling knives to fund my longboard purchases

I just dropped 300 + on a new board tonight. Bought a Nelson Tempest with 86a 75mm orangatangs, paris 180's, and some risers. Should be an awesome setup for sliding, freestyle, and some lighter dowhill stuff!

Keep the responses coming guys! Its really cool to see who longboards! :)

If you're looking for some great information on longboarding, i bought my Landyachtz from www.ridealongboard.com/best-longboard-brands/ and it really helped me improve my riding.

My Son and I were lucky to find this complete FacePlant longboard while at the beach over Thanksgiving last year -- $110 for the board, trucks, wheels, everything!

We do what we coined as "street surfing," where we use a ski rope tied to a bicycle and take turns pulling each other. Gets some crazy looks from passers by. Going street surfing while visiting friends in SC this weekend in fact.

Hey dude!

Congrats on getting into shredding downhill. I dont much anymore but my brother is a pro with madrid and co-owns the site www.skatehousemedia.com, a longboarding website dedicated to producing content that appeals to those who go fast! Check em out and always skate safe!

Used to! When I was in high school and college we'd spend a lot of our time at the beach, Malibu had some chill spots.

Just a warning to my fellow knife nuts- this thread got me into longboarding and they can be just as bad as knives when it comes to GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). I now have about $1000 tied up in boards, trucks and wheels.

OTOH, it's way too much fun and much better exercise than my knives! Check out the Silverfish website if you're interested in learning more about it. Especially check out the Soda Factory and "over 40" threads- my personal favorites.

Yes. Thanks to this thread, my few years back intention of getting longboard has come back now. I will take little consideration time now, as it's still too early to board here.

I have a 40 inch sector 9 pintail. I use it mainly to cruise around from work to a few other places here and there where I don't feel like walking to. Handy to keep around.

David, this is not meant as a slam or anything- Sector 9 makes fine boards, but they are not "the best top quality longboard". More like Buck or a Kershaw. Fine knives that will be a pleasure to use and get the job done, but not on a par with CRK, Busse, or a custom.

No offense meant, just didn't want people getting the wrong idea. To really learn about longboards, check out Silverfish. It's the longboarding equivalent of Bladeforums. Have fun!

This is my Sector 9. (it got scratched up pretty good when it fell on my chainsaw behind the seat in my truck)

I was big into downhill about four years ago. I rode a Landyahtz Evo with Randal 180's, and 3DM Avila's with Biltins. That rig hauls ass. A dislocated shoulder at around 30 mph ended my downhill hobby. I still ride it today, but in a casual/cruising type of way. My kid also has an EVO, and is currently riding a Bustin for cruising with friends.
