Ive always wanted a Clint Eastwood style poncho. Looked them up on the internet,$125 is to much for me to spend. Id like a nice wool one, cheap.

Me too! Was watching a few of his old westerns and like them. I agree that over 100 is waaaaaayy too much money. (I still like them though).

I had a poncho a long time ago. If you're sitting by a fire and able to wrap it around yourself fairly tightly, a poncho can be OK. When moving around, it is pretty drafty---especially under windy conditions.

Seems that it'd be reaaally easy to make one out of a wool blanket. Then you could customize the size for yourself, too.

I agree...You can find "Mexican style" blankets in southwest-themed stores or online for pretty cheap. Then...Cut a hole in it. Problem solved, for probably less than ten bucks. If you really wanna go all the way, put a hem around the hole for durability. And there ya go!

Great suggestions, but I'd want a fairly decent quality wool blanket in a dense weave. Something that would keep cold wind off you. Maybe a military surplus blanket. There used to be some fairly good quality European military surplus blankets around.

I'd consider a hemmed slit for your head. I don't think my old poncho had a big "hole" type opening but my memory has faded.

If you wanted to go for broke, you could also get a fleece blanket and sew it in as an interior layer to the whole deal. Add some comfort/warmth.

And if you're doing that much work, it just wouldn't be right to leave out some sewn-in knife sheaths on the interior:D

Sportsman's guide has a nice italian wool milsurp for around 30 bucks last time I checked. I might be picking one up if I lose a couple of ebay auctions I'm in right now.

you could get a Snuggie off of one of those info-mertials :D

i basically live in indian territory (although i am not an indian), so one might not be too hard to come by around here (the real ponchos, not a snuggie).

For_Few_Dollars_More_8.jpg

is basically the same as:

and you can get not just one, but two snuggies plus the bonus book light for the low low price of 19.99.

I have always used ponchos.... wool, fleece, rain ponchos...... I love em. Sew the sides in to make sleeves and you have a great winter anorak. (I know...... I always post this thing.... aw, suck it up...... you know you want one)
