Any one knife people out there?

It's been a long time ago, but I remember the days when I carried one and only one pocket knife on me. I wouldn't even buy another one until I lost or broke the knife I was carrying. Of course I owned a couple of fixed blade knives for camping and working in the woods, but I only had one folding knife. I have to admit to missing those days. Yeah, it's nice having choices, but admittedly all of my carry knives are pretty closed to each other in size and blade design. Still, I'm not sure I could go back to those days. I think I would miss having the ability to choose something different if the mood struck me.

Anyhow, I'm starting to ramble a bit, so I'll get to the original point of the thread; do any forum members know a one knife person, or are there any forum members out there that consider themselves a one knife person? I'm talking about owning just one knife other than any kitchen or work related knives.

I'd guess that one knife people, as a group, tend to be non-knifenuts. That being so, I'd be very surprised to see many of them spending their time on an online forum dedicated to knives.

+1. The only one-knife people are non-knife people who got a knife as a gift and threw it in a drawer to collect dust.

Oh, and Luke Skywalker. Him too.

There's times I'll adopt one knife and designate it to be the One Knife EDC for a few weeks at a time.

It's hard to do, knowing I have so many other choices, but I find that it does give me a better working knowledge of that One Knife, and I find out what works for me, and what doesn't. That helps me narrow down my choices for future purchases, and makes me appreciate all the different aspects of the individual.

So, sometimes I have just One Knife.

I kind of find the idea of OWNING just one knife to be unrealistic. It would be like owning just one screwdriver. It just wouldn't work.

I do know a one knife person: my dad. He always carries his Friedrich Herder in a pocket and uses it for tasks in and around his farm.

I'm not a one-knife person but, I am as much of one as I can be, I think.

At least for now, I refuse to have redundant knives in my collection, as well as any that are there just to collect and not use. Meaning, I have one small, unobtrusive folder, one heavy-duty folder, one medium-duty all-around folder, one medium-sized fixed stout fixed blade, one small stout fixed blade, and so on.

So while non-knife people would wonder why I need as many knives as I have, knife addicts would wonder why I deprive myself of many knives I would like to own.

The reason is that I'm happier with more money in the bank and fewer things cluttering my life.

I only carry one knife on my person but in the trunk in my backpack I have a multi tool another folder or two and a Scrapyard Son of Dogfather along with first aid kit etc.

You mean one knife people actually do exist?!?! WOW. I always thought they were mythical beings used in stories to frighten children.

I actually only own one folder as of right now that I use. I gave away or sold the other ones I had because I didn't need them anymore or just lost interest in their design. RIGHT NOW I only have and carry a CRK umnum. I will soon to be getting a few barkies for camping/hiking. I would consider myself a knife nut still because of the interest and knowledge of knives. I just don't have the funds right now to buy the ones I would want. I would much prefer to own and use 1 great knife, instead of 5 ok knives. To each his own.

though i own 6 or 7 folders and a trio of throwing knives, i'm basically a one knife person. i only ever carry one at a time and rarely switch.

other than a few benchmades/spydercos Ive been given as gifts, I only own and use one knife.

of course, it is a 400 dollar folder, so probably have some people with double digit knives beat.

i suppose i could almost qualify as a one-knife person.

i've been EDC'ing the same Leatherman Wave for over 10 years now if that counts.

but i do own more knives than just that leatherman.

My dad, who passed away almost five years ago, carried a Boker Copperhead for many years. He did have a few fixed blades, that were used when camping and fishing, but the Copperhead was his only pocketknife.

Well I'm a young, poor student, who's recently got into this knife game properly (I've always been fond of knives though) and I carry just a SAK, I've got an Izula too, but there aren't any clear knife laws for my country that I've found yet and so I don't usually carry that, besides, it doesn't fit in my pocket. Hopefully soon I'll get a Spyderco to compliment my SAK, but as yet, dollars are few and far between.

I have just one folding knife + one multitool + one SAK. But that totals 5 blades that I EDC so I probably don't qualify. :grumpy:

Nope, I have had a bare minimum of two knives on my person for many years. I can't remember why I started doing so. Probably because I couldn't decide which to pocket or I wanted to show off both to my knife Buds at work, but I just keep on doing It. I have had as many as three at times, but that was for something special I was doing that day. I have a few knives in my meager collection and I want more all the time. I have though, been able to control my purchasing binges for a while now.;)
